Personalization Enable or Disable Transparency Effects in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off transparency effects for your account in Windows 11.

Transparency effects in Windows 11 has some window backgrounds and surfaces appear slightly transparent with an acrylic blur and Mica effect.

Some of these windows include context menus, File Explorer, Quick Settings, Settings, sign-in screen, Start menu, taskbar, and more.

Reference:

If you turn on high contrast, it will disable transparency effects.

Option One

Turn On or Off Transparency Effects in Personalization Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Personalization on the left side, and click/tap on Colors on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Turn On (default) or Off Transparency effects for what you want on the right side. (see screenshot below)

4 You can now close Settings if you like.




Option Two

Turn On or Off Transparency Effects in Accessibility Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Accessibility on the left side, and click/tap on Visual effects on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Turn On (default) or Off Transparency effects for what you want on the right side. (see screenshot below)

4 You can now close Settings if you like.




Option Three

Turn On or Off Transparency Effects using REG file


1 Do step 2 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you would like to do.

2 To Turn On Transparency Effects

This is the default setting.


A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Turn_on_transparency_effects_for_current_user.reg

3 To Turn Off Transparency Effects

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

Turn_off_transparency_effects_for_current_user.reg

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize]
"EnableTransparency"=dword:00000000

4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7 You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
