This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the Writing tools in the Notepad app for your account in Windows 11.
Notepad is a fast and simple text editor that can be used to view, edit, and search through plain text documents instantly.
The Notepad app in Windows 11 now includes Copilot AI features that let you quickly rewrite, summarize, make shorter, make longer, change tone, and change format of text using Copilot.
It is required to sign in to Notepad with your Microsoft account to use AI features in Notepad.
AI features like Write, Rewrite, and Summarize use AI credits from a required Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription.
You can turn off the Copilot AI features in Notepad if you don't want to see them.
Starting with Notepad version 11.2508.28.0 to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels on Windows 11, Notepad now supports AI features like Summarize, Write, and Rewrite on Copilot+ PCs, with no subscription required. If you have a subscription, you can seamlessly switch between local and cloud models based on your needs. If you’re not signed in or don’t have a subscription, you can use the local model to accomplish your tasks. For now, these features support English only, making premium AI more accessible and flexible for everyone.
Starting with Notepad version 11.2512.28.0, Copilot AI features have been renamed to Writing tools.
