Error Installing AMD Graphics Drivers

Hi,

I downloaded the latest drivers directly from amd:

However I get this error message during the Install:

My laptop is this:

So why the above error message saying my hardware not compatible or can anyone point me in the right direction of where I can download the latest graphics drivers please?

In this link what's the difference between VGA Driver & VGA Utility and which ones do I install if I cant install the latest from amd site?

The utilities don't do much more than you can already do from screen and gpu settings in Control Panel and Windows Settings menus. Just maybe a bit more convenient. I rarely use them myself. The driver is as stated, it's the driver.

I have no idea why the size is different. The best way to answer your other question is do a Google search using the search term "AMD VGA graphics utility." Check the results for the answer that best provides the information you are seeking.

The latest release contains the graphics driver and chipset drivers only, as far as I am aware.

The previous release contains all of the drivers and various software packages as well, including junk software that you don't really need, the usual marketing crap.

Okay the OEM drivers on the Acer website look outdated 2022-2023, to confirm for future downloads I can only download graphics drivers from Acer site only not from AMD directly?

That would be correct. Because you have a laptop, the hardware is somewhat proprietary and requires drivers/software designed specifically for that hardware. So only download the drivers etc. from Acer.

I would not worry too much about the age of the software as long as you don't have any issues with it. The older the software, usually means the least amount of bugs have been found with it.

That driver wont work with your Processor, it is intended for a Ryzen 9 6980hx.

You can search for the AMD software for the 6600u, but you already indicated that you had a problem with that.

You can try. I have installed it on my Ryzen 6800H as 23.11.1 wouldn't install - same error as yours.

I'm just posting this for the issue and fix for me on an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx, 2300 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s), ASUS laptop.
The 23.11.1 was causing very slow booting and even the WU driver - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Display - 30.0.13044.13001 was causing issues on the boot option screen.
AMD has seems to have dropped the ball with APUs drivers especially with laptop.

Downloaded an older driver (for Windows 10), You can search for a more up to date driver if you wish as long as it's not 23.11.1

Downloaded the cleanup utility,
First step was to remove the AMD software in Windows settings, -Apps -Installed Apps.
Next was to run the Cleanup Utility.
Next was to install the older driver.
On reboot opening the Radeon software and stop it auto downloading software and drivers.
Thankfully Win Updates has the 30.0.13044.13001 driver update as optional.
That's it (until Windows Update gets aggressive again).
Anyway it's working for me and the software gives better control for me on the second monitor rather than the basic software offered via Win Updates.
Good luck to whatever you decide to do to fix your issue (y)

You can disable driver updates through Windows Update so you don't need to worry if it will override your current driver.

In Group policy editor navigate to Computer configuration/Administrative templates/Windows components/Windows Update/Manage updates offered from Windows Update and Enable the option Do not include drivers with Windows Update.

Restart PC.

Doesn't always work with GPU drivers. I use @Brink's tutorial and use the reg fix to disable driver downloads if needed. Usually, though, if you install the driver you need and then then Windows Updates installs an unwanted driver all I do is to use device manager, reinstall the proper driver again, reboot and Win Update will no longer offer the update.

I always disable them through Group policy right after clen install of windows. Last time I forgot to this had to use Microsoft show or hide updates tool to hide a bios update which was actually an older version than my currently installed one. So I always disable driver updates and update them manually.
