Solved Errors 0x800f0831 when installing KB5016629

its bc you need to clean install from scratch "keep nothing" from apps and documents then it will work
Thanks, but if I have to do a clean install then what's the point of applying any update, it defeats the whole purpose if you have to reinstall all the apps. I am running Build 832 which installed fine and it's only the last 2 that came after that, which is causing the problem. I am hoping 22H2 fixes whatever issue is causing these errors for so many people.

I agree completely. Not to mention they provide very little support information and we have to rely on forums.

Tried several things including removing and disabling devices in device manager and uninstalling some older programs and still no luck in successfully installing Windows Update with latest updates from UUP integrated in the ISO. Only clue that I now have is an error message that I get after Windows undoes all the changes and finishes the boot. The error code is 0xC1900101 0x30017 Installation failed in the first_boot phase with an error doing boot operation. From my research it appears to be possibly related to driver issue during boot. But I've updated all the drivers, shut malwarebytes completely and removed all unnecessary peripherals. This is extremely frustrating not know which specific driver may be the culprit. Looking for suggestions, thanks in advance.

I tried that too. I have a feeling it's related to some security requirements that were implemented in the last 2 cumulative updates that's causing even some signed drivers to fail during boot.

These failures only started to happen after KB5016629 and then with KB5016691. If I recall it was some security improvements in the 6629 so that is why I suspect driver incompatibility. The error code points to driver. Wish there's a way to look at a log and see where it is getting hung up with the spinning wheel.

Memory Intergrity is off and I can't turn it on because there are some incompatible drivers. I did try disabling secure boot in BIOS. Some of these drivers are associated with programs that I use and I am wondering if one may be the culprit. Using d

I looked at the incompatible driver list was able to remove all but PxhlpA64.sys that is associated with my ASUS DVD drives. Don't think that driver is the issue since the same driver appears on my laptop which too the KB5016691 update without any issue. So I am back to square one and frustrated as to what exactly is causing the update to not complete.

I uninstalled GPU using your suggestion which reverted back to basic MS Video driver and did the install and still the same issue with the spinning wheel after it reboots. Boot fails in the first boot phase according to the error message that comes up after it undoes the changes. 0xC1900101 0x30017. Appreciate your tips and like anything it's trial and error without anything glaring to look at.

Yes, I do have that and it was successfully installed on 8/12. I am current with all the updates that were pushed with the exception of KB5016991.

I really appreciate your tenacity and like you I too don't give up. I was a field engineer years ago and worked on some pretty challenging problems and that's part of the fun of troubleshooting. I do have the latest BIOS installed and we've done practically everything that one could think of. Has to be something funky that they added to KB5016629 that also carried on to KB5016691. The first time I ran into the problem was with 6629 and so I looked for the update right before that and that went in with no issues and all my hardware and software remained the same since then. So if there was a major driver or other issue that should have failed but it didn't. That's why I think it's some anomaly or glitch that's only impacting some machines and not all.
