Windows 10
While troubleshooting my setup, I found the following warning in the Event Viewer:

Event 158, Disk
Disk 3 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's support website (Microsoft Support) and search for KB2983588 to resolve the issue.

Now, searching for this KB yields nothing useful. I read the threads in the tenforums about this issue, but they also do not appear to be helpful. At this point, I have only two hard drives connected to my system, the SSD with Windows 11 and NVMe drive with Windows 10 that is my main working system. I just don't know how to turn off the NVMe, otherwise I would.

However, I do have a card reader on this machine and this registers as two removable drives with no media

Screenshot 2021-07-04 121453.png

I guess that's why it complains - the two empty reader slot are registering as identical drives.

My Windows 10 system has the same issue and it never led to any visible problems, so I guess I could just leave it alone. But if someone could enlighten me on this issue, I will be grateful.

Yea, that's what I mean by useless information. I did see that page, but the solution there is to install MPIO, which runs on Windows Server. Doesn't look like it's helpful for my specific issue.

Your image shows 4 disks connected , not 2.

Disk 0 == C:
Disk 1 == D:

Disk 2 and Disk 3 are showing as removable - so some device somewhere is attaching as a removable device (removable are those attached via USB / Firewire / other interfaces that can be quickly removed - like USB jump drives, External Hard Drives, etc.)

And, for whatever reason, both of them have the same GUID - almost as if the same device is trying to load a removable disk, fails, and tries again with a different drive letter.

You need to figure out what the removable disks are and what device you have that is attempting to load them.

So, start with, what devices do you have connected via USB to your machine? You'll probably want to remove anything that is not essential for operation (IOW - don't unplug your mouse / keyboard).

Then see if the removable drives are still there or not.

If they are, wouldn't be a bad idea to check your router to see if someone has plugged in a USB drive to it for files access across your network - could be Win11 is trying to (and failing miserably) at loading that drive as a local drive, too.

So, do as above and post back the results (drives gone or still there).

Another thing to try is to right click on Disk 3 and see if you get a set of options - one of them being Eject - if so, click on Eject and see what happens....

But I recommend this only after you've done the above first, because if you don't know what that device is that is loading drives on your system, you need to know that first. Drives should not just appear out of thin air attempting to connect to your machine.

I just don't know how to turn off the NVMe, otherwise I would.
...

Can you disable the drive in Device Manager/Disk Drives . Just right-mouse click on the appropriate device, and select Disable Device . Should work for a drive that is not the current online system drive.

Uh, notice that there is not an EFI partition on the Win11 booting drive...might not be a good idea to turn off hte Win10 drive as the EFI partitoin is there. It shouldn't matter, technically, but this is Win11 - we simply cannot verify for a fact that it won't matter.

Yes, that's because the NVMe drive was present when I was installing the OS. If I disable it now, I will have to reinstall Windows 11. Somehow I haven't expected Windows 11 and hence put my main system on NVMe. Before I was always installing OSs with one disk turned on, this way each OS had it's own bootloader. Oh well.

The EFI partition is usually automatically created. However, you can also manually create a EFI partition, if you think it worth your effort:
