Windows 11 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3155)
Hi all,
When I select two files in Windows Explorer and do right mouse click, Explorer disappears and restarts. I cannot find any crash in the Event log. No idea when this problem started, last time I tried it worked fine. No problem when just one file is selected. My Windows is up-to-date according to Windows Update.
Any ideas ?
TIA,
Chris

CLEAN BOOT
Perform a clean boot to eliminate software conflict causing the issue. If it doesn't happen in a clean boot, you have some software conflicting with Windows. Brink's procedure will help you weed out which one. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Tutorial

SFC/DISM
Make sure you have no corrupt system files that is causing this problem. Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer
(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

Thanks for that, I'll try. I now see I'm not the first to report this issue here. In the other thread, the OP found it fixed by a Windows update, another person fixed it by "restoring an image". Hmm....... 🤔

Sorry for reviving this old thread. I have tried absolutely everything that has been suggested here and elsewhere, and nothing fixed the problem. It is really quite maddening as I desperately need to rename a batch of files 🙄 Now in a flash of inspiration I thought : let's try an alternative to Windows Explorer. So I downloaded Double Commander, said to be the best, selected my multiple files, clicked the right mouse button, and ... VLAM ! it throws an access violation error. Isn't this strange ! I sure had never expected that. To its credit, the program neatly handles the exception and does not restart itself (so there is no crash to be found in the Event Log). Also, in the menu I found a Multi-Rename Tool and that works fine. So at least I can now get the job done 😊
