How to fix "export registry key" in Windows 11. I can right-click a User Hive key etc., but there is no "save window" that appears after doing so. This happens with all HKEY Hives.

Regedit should be using standard libraries to function. May be worth while running your standard repair command to check for issues

Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Already did that and sfc /scannow. Both commandlets did not find problems either. (cmd/administrator)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your initial post, but I want to make sure you know that when you right-click a registry key, the pop-up menu offers several choices, one of which is Export. If you click Export, you will get a window like this:
Clipboard01.jpg

You can navigate to the folder of your choice (it's not limited to libraries) and save the reg file there. Pick a folder and use a name that will tell you what it is, so you can (1) find the reg file and (2) identify the one you want in case you need it.

I do not get the "Export Registry File" window to save and/or rename the Key. It's not any specific Key, it's all Keys.

Enable the hidden administrator account. Restart and log into that account. Can you then see the export function?
If it works correctly in that account it would seem that your user account is corrupted.

I forgot the BASIC step, Boot to Safe Mode. After doing so I ran both sfc /scannow and Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

The Save Windows appears now. Yea! I exported five Keys to make sure it works. Now to back-up the system.

Thanks gang for all your suggestions. :geek:

Well, well, well! The actual culprit behind this glitch is in fact, Explorer Patcher. However, I found a work around - Use Programs and Features to uninstall Explorer Patcher. Once you export the Key or Keys then simply reinstall Explorer Patcher. All the icons will return to their respective positions on the Taskbar. But don't use an uninstaller that will remove EP's settings.

Explorer Patcher is going to stay installed on my system until I need to export a key. I just reinstall it in seconds after the export is completed. (I also posted a discussion at github.com about this glitch. If the developer (Valnet) can fix it I am sure  he'll get around to it.

RegEdit Export uses the "legacy" file dialog, so the issue may exist for others but go unnoticed. IrfanView is another program that uses legacy dialogs. I'll see if I can recreate the problem. I'm curious to see if other Windows 11 Explorer mods have the same issue.

That would be greatly appreciated by myself and others who may find glitches with Explorer Patcher. Hopefully you can create a Registry Edit or Batch file that would address this glitche. TIA. (y)

Simply installing Explorer Patcher with default settings did not replicate the issue. It may depend on what options are selected. I tried a few different options under "File Explorer" but nothing caused the described behavior (I restarted Explorer between each test). Maybe if I started with your Explorer Patcher settings I might be able to replicate the issue. I think the settings files are the "pdb" files found in %AppData%\ExplorerPatcher. I'll test with your files if you can send them to me (you can find my email address in the WinSetView manual).

I tried START11 from stardock.com and that fixed the problem! Yea!! START11 did not work with Explorer Patcher until the most recent update from Github.com.

Thank you for giving it good shot!

After more experimenting I found that I can use both Start11 and Explorer Patcher and export Registry Keys. However, if I run Disk Cleaner and allow it to delete everything I am no longer able to export Keys. I uninstalled and reinstalled both Start 11 and Explorer Patcher. I could again export Keys.

I am going to uncheck everything in Disk Cleaner except Windows Updates. We have not had a larger update (3 to 4 GB) in awhile. When we do I will post the results in this topic.
