If they're going to spend $1K, I'd go for more than USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) speeds for drive.

$550 gets you an 8TB SSD with USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) speeds.

Personally, I don't like Sandisk, so I won't recommend it.
