Firewall problems.

I have had problem with my printer for a long time now since W1. The guy at Canon remote connected and told me that my firewall was not working. I informed him that I was using the MS one as it is recommended (here), He said that I get only the basic firewall and that when a hacker attempts to get through it is damaged even though it is rejected by the firewall. He showed me a pretty pictured example of this.

He said that as I have had problems, I would be allowed (by Microsoft) to get a stronger firewall. Level 5 – 12 He opened up notepad and wrote it down.

He kept going back to his manager to see if he could make them any cheaper. I was pressurised strongly to get my credit card out as this was VERY URGENT.
He took me to eventvwr -> Administrative Events. Pictured below.
Any help on this or do I need to pay thousands to Canon for a strong MS firewall.

Canon support uses a gmail account? Cool...

This is a scam. They were not from canon. Your computer has been compromised. Make sure to uninstall any remote software they were using.

Check for windows updates and run a scan with windows defender.

They were trying to scare you into paying. Your windows key is not going to expire. None of this is real. You were scammed by an email.

Thanks. I see that now. Got suspiciouse when they kept trying to reduce the ammount and phoning me back. Problem with google is it puts the scammers above the genuine buisness's

It really shouldn't be. For me searching in general turns up the correct stuff. You do need to watch out for the ads. If you block ads in your browser or look past them at the actual search results, you should be fine.

But you should take this seriously and make sure you do as I suggested. Let us know if you need more assistance.

A secondary scanner using the free malwarebytes wouldnt be a bad idea either. You can uninstall it after running a scan with it.

He was in your PC?

I’d be reinstalling windows and burning my router. But that’s just me.

Never, ever let anyone connect to your PC unless you called them.

The guy from CANON sent you an email that said MICROSOFT SUPPORT that has a GMAIL email address.

You should seriously consider finding out if there is a local community class on PC security. It’s worth it.
People have lost everything with more sophisticated scams than this one, this scam should of given you a nose bleed.

I would as well, but based on how easy this was for them I did not want to complicate things further. More than likely though it was the common tactic they always do, where they don't infect the computer or honestly do anything but remote in pull up event viewer, show them all the "errors" and then ask for money.

Backdoors?

At the least this member might want to consider reinstalling Windows and resetting the router with a password cange. Or taking it to an expert.
