Flash Drive Causes File Explorer to Collapse All Folders

When I insert or remove a flash drive, file explorer will collapse all folders that had been expanded in the navigation pane and show only the drives under This PC. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

How do you have your Autoplay settings configured?
When I insert a USB or external drive, a new instance of File Explorer Opens, which from memory automatically has the folders collapsed as is defult for File Explorer

Are you sure your original File Explorer window isn’t open also?

The insertion of the drive doesn't open a new instance of File Explorer. Thanks for your reply.

I had, and have, AutoPlay on. Changing AutoPlay defaults for removable drive to 'Open folder...' causes a new copy of File Explorer to open, not what I'm looking for. I've set it back to 'Take no action'.

Which was the point of my post, so you're sorted then.

For others:

You can configure Autoplay settings as follows:

Check AutoPlay for USB/Removable Drives (Windows 10/11)
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > AutoPlay
  • Toggle AutoPlay to On
  • Under Removable drive, select "Open folder to view files (File Explorer)"
  • You can turn Autoplay to OFF and then a new window will NOT open.
  • Or leave it on and in the Choose Autoplay Defaults > select > Take No Action

Sorry, but your suggestions do not change the File Explorer behavior. If it is showing all the folders for one of my disks and I insert a flash drive, that drive's letter will be added to the list of disks but any folders that were showing are collapsed. I don't think AutoPlay has any settings to correct this. Thanks for your help.
