For people like myself with 12 year old mobo will be stuck with Windows 10

I'm pretty sure the requirements for 11 will be relaxed on rollout and thereafter so I won't be upgrading

My faithful self built pc is now 12 years old with a M4A79T Deluxe which runs Windows 10 Home does not have TPM or Secure Boot because it is Legacy BIOS only I would have to spend a lot of money to be able to have Windows 11.

I don't think I will upgrading to Windows 11 any time soon! Windows 10 life has 4 years to run yet and my pc does everything I need to do as far as computing is concerned but I will still be interested on how things develop for others in this forum and elsewhere. Thanks a lot Microsoft NOT.
Slightly better than my daily gear.
I'm on M4A785T-M here, AMD Phenom II X2 555.
Installed Win11 since the leaked one,
and this old horse working well everyday, got update on
every release.

Where can I get the "leaked" version of 11 for my X4 955 on a GA880_UD3H?

It was on beebom or something and XDA Developer before MS asked them to be taken down. The version was 21996.1
Will be better if you just create the newest ISO from UUPDump. Because if you install the leaked version, it will still updating
to the last build.

Uh, don't. It's old, and its a crapshoot as to whether you can actually get the leak updated to newer Insiders builds. Many have been able to, but more than a few of us could not.

Better to follow this:

Otherwise try and install in a VM.
Whether or not MS will still let us run as VM on old hardware after release remains to be seen, but for now the beta runs great as a VM using VMware Workstation on a gen4 cpu. I'm sure it's just me, but for day to day use, using a VM is very awkward. Guess it's because mouse and keyboard clicks and strokes are just habit for me so without looking at the screen I'm always outside of the VM windows and screw up a lot. So far a lot of what I'm seeing is not impressing me that much, specifically Search.

Being this is a Dev channel beta OS at the moment, Microsoft is pretty much relaxing rules on hardware installs so as to get as much data as possible. Once the OS starts getting to the final stages of being released I suspect Microsoft will start enforcing the stricter security requirements.

What that means is those stating the OS is running on their 12 year old rig now doesn't mean it'll be that way once the final nears

Microsoft pretty much said so themselves... Update on Windows 11 minimum system requirements. The only real question is whether Microsoft will allow 7th gen processors in the mix.

In terms of performance, I haven't noticed much of a real improvement in computers for many years.
Video has improved beyond all recognition with HDR, 4K UHD and 8K UHD for large and multi-monitor systems and if you do video editing or serious gaming the need for more powerful processors can't be denied. For typical web surfing, email, e-commerce and "officy things" then even running XP on a 15 to 20 year old rig probably wouldn't seem a lot slower - assuming you replace the dreadfully slow Disks with SSD's - assuming SATA- was around then - IDE spinners would kill any system even a modernCRAY !!!-- look at the improvement in bicycles over the last few years --really light and e-bike technology -- but you can still ride a 50 year old bike (if you are fit enough!!) as well. Video conferencing also needs faster processors and better graphics to improve the experience (and of course goes without saying - faster and reliable Internet).

Power consumption also on modern devices is far less and the amount of toxic material used in producing this kit is also very much reduced. In the current phase of "Green Energy and Climate change" things - not a bad reason for upgrading old gear in any case even if the actual user experience isn't greatly improved.

Cheers
jimbo

eVGA is hinting at a new X570 board. it's the first real foray into AMD land they've done - they have always been Intel.

Just found the article! I love EVGA Motherboards however I decided to go AMD and just built two MSI X570 rigs. They both perform great but I will not hesitate to switch. My wife will love this news, more money spent on computers. For me, this news is way more exciting than Windows 11.

Small note for the people here that running the newest tech, I'm using an old computer to run Windows 11 not for being a resistance to any tech improvement, but just because I can't afford the newer motherboard and other parts. I am a daily user of Adobe Photoshop and can't run the newest version because it demands newer SSE tech, and there's no "trick" to pass that. Now I run Windows 11 that demands for SecureBoot and TPM because there's some known "tricks."

Slow but sure, I will move to the newer tech because everything have their own time. I might not get rid of my current gear and keep it running, but in one day later, I surely have to move to the newer one. Why? Because everyone do. For example: the printing services that I daily dealing with, they always have the newest software and hardware, and it will be a MUST for me to follow their rules. Otherwise, some newer and younger guys with better stuff could replace me anytime.

Which will all be non- final releases. We have no idea what happens when it goes RTM, if those workarounds still work or not.

I do have faith in the techheads around the globe - someone, somewhere, will find a way to make it work on hardware that Microsoft would prefer it not running on.

But I also fully believe that, if you run into issues, and try to get help unsupported machines running W11, the official answer will be "Sorry, W11 is not supported on your machine."
Very true, John, but those same techheads will most likely come up with another work around so we won't even have to ask Microsoft for help. :)

And there's also the thought (mine) that it could be that Microsoft is watching what's happening with older systems to see if there are any real problems with Windows 11 and its security thereof.

I do think, though, that they will hold the line on TPM 2.0 because of security reasoning. It's my opinion that Microsoft wants to build the most secure Windows OS that can be.

No matter what the ransomware, hackers, jerks stealing information, etc. manage to do to us, it seems Microsoft gets the blame. So, I cannot blame MS for wanting things really tightened down.

I personally feel any great need to rush into upgrading my rig just yet but it is well overdue for a major upgrade. Mobo, CPU and RAM are now 13 years old but Win 10 runs fine on it. I did give Windows 11 a go and that ran OK apart from the occasional warning that my PC wasn't compatible.
It surprised me that my mobo has TPM 1.2 and can be upgraded to version 2.0 but it's really not worth me doing that considering the age of my RAM and CPU.

I think it's more to do with getting the OS out to as many people as possible for testing purposes even if that means easing restrictions at this early stage of the game.

And, definitely agree with you about Microsoft leaving the TPM requirement in place. Probably the CPU requirements as well - minimum 7th gen processors, probably 8 though.

My i7 is 10th gen, so I guess it qualifies. :) Luckily all three of my most used machines qualify.

My i9 is 9th gen so I'm good as well. Sadly, neither my backup desktop or laptop qualifies processor wise so....

Anyway my main rig is good so that's good enough for me. And by the time 11 releases to the general public I'll be looking for new laptop by then :)
