some other ppl had similar problems which were fixed by it.. dont leave any stone unturned as they say

There was also a bug in Radeon software, sometime before 20.5.1 where re-entering a game, causes a random "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" crash, it was in AMD's driver, IIRC.

The card used at the time: Radeon RX 580 8 GB

It happened after trying to re-enter Halo MCC with my friend at the time, but no BSOD rendered, it just froze and it was merely logged by Windows.

its not my solution found it on internet somewhere that bsod off nvkkdlwhatever .sys could be culprit of that being disabled in bios.. was just trying to help

I found a solution to my crashing in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) where I would get the message "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found". I'm running Windows 11 Ryzen 5900X and a nVidia 3070 TI. I did try the registry setting earlier in the thread but it didn't help me. My crashing was always random but I lucked out in one of the game sequences where it would crash at the exact same spot every time. This allowed me to try 20+ different settings to find what worked for me. MSI Afterburner always showed the GPU spike to max when the crash happened. All other parameters looked normal (temp, CPU, etc). I've had random crashes in other games so this got me thinking that it has to be a Windows setting.

What fixed my crashing was turning on the setting for Optimization for Windowed Games. It can be found under System/Display/Graphics/Default Graphics Settings and on my system, it was turned off by default.

My system would crash with over-clocking, under-clocking, all the different refresh rates and so on. In RDR2, I manually set lots of parameters both in Windowed and FullScreen modes. The variable refresh rate testing had some interesting results. The screen tearing was pretty bad at 60 Hz and eventually disappeared at 120 Hz. I now run the game at 144 Hz and Ultra settings with no crashes. Still need to test for a few more days but so far, it's stable.

Let me know if this works for any of the rest of you.

If you add a new TDR value. Add QWORD because you are using 64-bit windows..

I used DWORD as all the rest of the values in that registry key are DWORD's.

Microsoft uses the WOW6432Node key to control settings for software that runs in 32-bit mode. This can be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node. This node doesn't exist in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control so this is a second reason why I don't think a QWORD is necessary.

The Microsoft articles says the default value for the TdrDelay is 2 seconds.

The behavior I saw in my testing when turning this on was a slightly pause in the display (seemed like 1/2 second or so). During this pause, the screen would freeze sometimes with a partial image and sometimes as a black screen. Sometimes the game would recover and continue working, other times it would crash.

Now that I have my system working, I'm going to set the TdrDelay back down to 2 seconds instead of 10 seconds and see if I notice anything.

The article is old. I can't tell if it matters, compared to the article you took a screenshot of. Anyways, I hope that helps those who try it. DWORD or QWORD. I know from personal experience that the problem is annoying

Okay i read more about this have to check BIOS or NVIDIA control panel, but believe it’s not enabled because i never did steps shown here.How did you feel this would help ? It’s for increasing performance for certain games.

My fix was outlined in my first post. It's a Windows 11 setting.

What fixed my crashing was turning on the setting for Optimization for Windowed Games. It can be found under System/Display/Graphics/Default Graphics Settings and on my system, it was turned off by default.

Believe i checked there and mine was enabled, thanks. Thought this was enabled by default in Win 11

StarDude, actually you were getting it in a game only, right ? Mine never happens in game maybe why this setting helped you. Time will tell.

Made some checks and changes to system. Before changes did get freeze and restart on 1/14/22. Week after last one.
Did enable Optimization for windowed games as mentioned by someone else here.
Checked resizable bar is not active, not sure yet to activate or not.

Installed driver for display not sure if help, had no firmware update since last was installed.

Set RAM to XMP II profile wasn't sure this would work since last RAM same brand wouldn't boot in profile 2, so far it's good.
Still thinking about TdrDelay addition to registry, since error on Saturday does not create one in registry, assume does not ever has to be added.

PCIe Express in BIOS is still set to Auto going to change to Gen 3 (Auto, Gen 1, Gen2, Gen3) some felt might not be detecting Gen 3.

Correct. My crashes and errors were only showing up during games. The rest of Windows has been stable.

It's possible that the Optimization for Windowed Games is enabled in Windows by default. If I inadvertently turned it off, it would have been many months ago.

I did try changing some of the RAM profiles at one point but it didn't make any difference for me. Also, my Power Setting is set to Balanced and not High Performance as previously suggested by someone.

Turned off by default because i never disabled it in past, but enabled now to see but doubt will help me as it states for Optimization for Windowed Games.
