Freezes then restarts nvlddmkm.sys

What started on the 14th of this month and has occurred less then a hand full of times my computer froze and rebooted itself.
Checking the event Viewer afterwards description read:

nvlddmkm
The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
UCodeReset TDR occurred on GPUID:100

Other events in viewer showed:

\Device\00000094
UCodeReset TDR occurred on GPUID:100

\Device\Video3
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

Dump File showed culprit as nvlddmkm.sys which from reading about is a common NVIDIA TDR failure error.

Only time it happened is when i was just doing a lot of clicking with my trackball or typing with keyboard and had a few external drive i was working with.

Tried so far was using DDU Uninstaller to uninstall NVIDIA drivers and reinstalled them even recently on 11/16/22 had new driver come out and did the same for it with DDU.

I played PC games with no issues for hours i ran Furmark GPU Stress for awhile with no issues, AIDA64 stress tests and Unigine Heaven 4.0 card never went over 57c and cooled pretty quickly afterwards.

Followed most of what is said online about nvlddmkm.sys TDR. Ran SFC no integrity violations found.
Definitely using correct drivers for Graphics card all other drivers are up to date and so is Windows 11.

Did a Memory Diagnostics test which came back good no errors found, DiaxDiag is fine too.
SSD drive not corrupt.

Don't have a lot of items running or starting up in Windows 11.
Graphics card is not overclocked.I removed card and reinstalled it in case too.

One thing i read was about nvlddkmk.sys was to re-create the nvlddmkm.sys file, restoring the nvlddmkm may aid in fixing the video_tdr_failure error.

This file shows in two folders and not where most read online says it will be.
One is here and file created 11/15/22
"C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispig.inf_amd64_009debfbd2e1619b\nvlddmkm.sys"

other is on 9/21/21 here
"C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_d5ebba24696ee1d8\nvlddmkm.sys"

Both of these places have nvlddkmk.sys file with different dates 11/15/22 and 9/21/21 feel may be two different drivers on PC one new one old.

Telling you to rename nvlddkmk.sys to sys.old in C:/Windows/system32/drivers which it ain't there then go to NVIDIA folder in c:/NVIDIA which it ain't there and have it copied to C:/Windows/System32/drivers.

I know it probably meant other folder C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository.

Do not think re-create the file will help since one is dated 11/15/22.

Tried just about everything i can think of and read about online for this error. So far graphics card seems fine under stress and even the PSU to mention another probable cause it could be (PSU which can handle RX-3060Ti).

I recently added a new Sound Card around time of first TDR not sure if there is maybe driver conflict, sound card works fine.
Also new 4K monitor using Display Port.

To me i feel this is either some driver conflict, software conflict or Windows 11 issue from updates.
Any help is appreciated. So far has not been worse with errors, not consistent ....yet.

Will post a DumpFile analysis as soon as it occurs again. Have few programs WinDbg Preview, BluScreen View and WhoCrashed.

@jds63 I'm having the exact same issues and basically followed everything you did. I also bought a new PSU and that did nothing. I hope this gets fixed soon. Is there anything you need from me to try and debug this issue?

@jds63 Are you on Nvidia driver: 511.23? I think that's problematic at the moment, it might be worth rolling back to 497.29 or try going to a latest if exists.

Thanks for commenting about your issue also. I am using the newest NVIDIA Driver 526.98 and even had an update during time of incident for me so had driver right before this one.

Check here in forum they have a post for when new driver come out for NVIDIA. 511.23 that goes back couple of months i believe did not have problem then. Latest NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Drivers for Windows 11

Did you have an issue with newest one ? Or one right before 526.98 ?

For me strangest thing is it seems to only happen while just clicking a lot with my trackball just doing stuff on PC. My cursor freezes and even keyboard does not respond both Logitech. Then it either roboots on it's own or lately i have to restart the PC to get it working again, then i get nvlddkmk.sys error in Event Viewer.

Trying to use trackball and keyboard without driver software, but been using software for as long as i had them. Not m,any updates lately.

Not sure if this is what exactly the way it happens with you. I felt it's driver or software related too. So far no BSOD.

lately i have been getting similar to what was mentioned previously. My screen freezes can not move cursor or use keyboard PC does not reboot on own i have to do it by pressing reset button on case. Then i do not get any dump file.

These three events show right before i rebooted by pressing reset button on case attached here.
Not sure what to think still showing video TDR along with nvlddkmk.sys

Turns out my Dump file was outdated, my crashes were caused by XMP profile not being liked anymore. Despite passing memtest86 for four passes. Do you get a Critical Kernal crash could be worth trying?

Yes if talking about Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power Event 41 (63) because i pressed reset button to reboot PC cause it was not responsive from pressing keyboard or mouse. This event happened before when i froze and had to press reset button next to power button on case.

Same critical event 41 will come up if computer restarts on it's own as well as doing it yourself.Not a proper shutdown.

XMP profile not being liked anymore
Usually won’t even be able to boot if profile isn’t going to work for RAM. Boot to BIOS on start, what mine would do. Going to run Memtest86 see how mine does even though it was good with Windows Memory Diagnostics

Running Memtest86 for over 5 hrs with 4 passes showed no errors. This definitely rules out memory issues considering done also by Windows Memory Diagnostics recently.

RAM is few months old and so is Graphics card.

Been a week since any freezes occurred with PC.

Since then i happen to replace an older PSU i had for almost 9 years now and was used in a few builds since then could be cause of my issues but was working fine.

Getting close to a month now since i had the issue originally stated at beginning of my post.
Seems i may have the problem solved, but not positive on how it was solved.

As mentioned before i had recently replaced a 9 year old PSU which had a 10 year warranty with a new 850W.
Tried using Bluetooth connectivity for trackball and keyboard instead of USB Unifying receiver for both, thinking was related to that. Doing a stress test on Graphics card should of stressed older PSU to cause issue, but didn’t then.

Also has been some NVIDIA driver updates since. Few hardware driver updates towards mostly WiFi adapter and Bluetooth, so not sure this made a difference not related.

Also been windows updates of course since.
Will leave thread not solved for a bit longer to be sure and report anything else i can find to help others who may have this issue.

Today i had one random restart all i was doing was checking e-mail.
So i checked Event Viewer and did not see anything corresponding to nvlddmkm.sys which was the TDR errors i would get.
What i keep seeing is one for Hypervisor which was shown when i had those TDR with above error.

I do not use VM i have never used VM with this setup. Hypervisor is turned off in Programs and Features. Posted error in Event Viewer in Text.
Not sure what and how has to do with Hyperthreading and Virtualization being enabled in BIOS maybe.

So only happened once so far is why i decided to update post, but maybe original issue was due to HyperVisor issue also, not entirely sure.

So it seems it's happening again freezes then restarts cursor can not be moved and now with same file error in Event Viewer nvlddmkm.sys as beginning of thread. Error happened when just browsing the internet no other programs running not all the so far just once a day, yesterday and today.

Yesterday did not show nvlddmkm.sys in Event Viewer. Not sure what to try or think since it wasn't present for over a month after changing PSU.
Posted text copy of Event Viewers error plus another error i received yesterday too about unable to create dump file error.

Happened again today !!!!!!!!!!!!:steam:
Not sure what causing this i have tried enough things over time now. Also getting Volmgr in Event Viewer were it's unable to create dump file along with the usual nvlddmkm.sys errors about 10 times in a row in Event Viewer Administrator Events just before freeze and restart.

Posted a text of Volgmr error in post #17 so it is happening quite awhile with not creating dump file when it restarts after freeze up.
Surface tested drive even though it's pretty new still and NVMe M.2. Tested RAM before with Windows 11 and MemTest no problems.
Good suggestions tried most in past

I am getting the same issue - I have a brand new 1000W PSU, just installed a new B550a-pro and running a 3090.
PC will just randomly hitch up and it might be ok, or it does a full restart.
I thought it was the PCIe gpu slot on my old Mobo (B550F GAMING WIFI) that was busted, as the problem went away when I used the 2nd PCI slot on that board. But I wanted to use the 1st slot to not get bottle-necked.

@jds63 Just wondering, have you mounted your GPU vertically with a riser?
