I always have a problem just using group names to assign permissions. Let me use an example:
Say I have a user named "Joe". Joe is part of Administrators. Rather than simply assigning permissions to Administrators, I find that adding the user Joe specifically to the permissions resolves the issue. At least that is the behavior I see in a workgroup rather than a domain.

We tend not to use the Administrators group for share or NTFS permissions for similar reasons. You don't know if the user is elevated or not, or which privileges that admins might have are currently filtered from the token, etc. You just get wonky behavior sometimes, or behavior you understand but the user may not. For shares and file system permissions, it's more clear to make groups specifically for those things and put users in those groups.
