Apps Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store in Windows 11

  • Staff
Microsoft_Store_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to manually check for app and game updates to download and install in the Microsoft Store for your account in Windows 11.

Microsoft redesigned the Microsoft Store from the ground up in Windows 11, making space for more content, keeping the user experience simple and responsive. It will help you discover and install the best apps, games, movies and even special offers – like unique movie discounts for Xbox Game Pass members. All the content in the Microsoft Store is tested for security, family safety and device compatibility.

Here's How:

1 Open the Microsoft Store app.

2 Click/tap on the Library icon in the left pane, and click/tap on the Get updates button at the top right. (see screenshot below)

Get_updates_in_Microsoft_Store-1.png

3 The Microsoft Store will now check for updates for your installed apps and games. (see screenshot below)

4 If you have any app or game updates available, they will automatically start downloading and installing. (see screenshot below)

5 You can click/tap on the More actions (3 dots) button for apps and games to Cancel, Download now, etc... if needed. (see screenshot below)

6 When finished, you can close the Microsoft Store app if you like.

That's it,

Unfortunately, the Microsoft Store is a Store app and not one that has an executable that can be used for this. :(
This is not exact, because I find this file for the store: Windows 11 Store.msixbundle

but this is not the last version...

This does not affect the work of MS Store. Do what you want.

Hi, thanks for your hint, what this should do ?

I created a .reg file with the text you wrote me, but there is an error...
Could you please check it ?
See the following URL for what it does:

It should be a .bat file not a .reg file as you can run the same command line in the command prompt.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>reg /?

REG Operation [Parameter List]

Operation [ QUERY | ADD | DELETE | COPY |
SAVE | LOAD | UNLOAD | RESTORE |
COMPARE | EXPORT | IMPORT | FLAGS ]

Return Code: (Except for REG COMPARE)

0 - Successful
1 - Failed

For help on a specific operation type:

REG Operation /?

Examples:

REG QUERY /?
REG ADD /?
REG DELETE /?
REG COPY /?
REG SAVE /?
REG RESTORE /?
REG LOAD /?
REG UNLOAD /?
REG COMPARE /?
REG EXPORT /?
REG IMPORT /?

Oh, now I have understand: I must use Powershell, not Cmd...

I have done your mod but Microsoft Store gives me RETRY when I try to update or download ann app...

Have you got the last version of the Microsoft Store that I can launch to update the old one or overwrite it ?
You can use powershell or cmd but it requires administrator mode.
or you can simply goto the URL below and use option 3 which is the same thing in a .reg file already.

Have you got the last version of the Microsoft Store that I can launch to update the old one or overwrite it ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your great help.
First do this:
Second:
Go back to that same screen and click the Add button
2021-07-31_16-53-59.jpg

On the next page:
Click on Select Principle and put in the name of your user account and click on Check Names and select Full Control and then Okay.

At this point, goto C:\Program Files and see if you can click and see the contents of the WindowsApps

If you can, then proceed to the next step.
If you can't, then you have to see what you did wrong above.

After this, download the zip file Microsoft.WindowsStore_22108.1401.0.0.zip I have created which is Microsoft Windows Store v22108.1401.0.0 at:
or
Télécharger Microsoft.WindowsStore_22108.1401.0.0.zip - Upload mirroir - MultiUp.org
After downloading, place it in a temp folder of your choice.
Right click on the file and select Extract all which will prompt you and should put in the a subfolder named
Microsoft.WindowsStore_22108.1401.0.0 in the current directory
Go into Microsoft.WindowsStore_22108.1401.0.0 directory and copy all the folders to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps
so it should look like this:
2021-08-12_12-20-51.jpg

After this, make sure you close Windows Store if it is running then:
in administrator Power Shell window, do the following:
Code:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
copy and paste it exactly as shown and everything is one line.

How can I perform the "Get Updates" action using Powershell in Windows 11?
You can try winget, it should update both, winget and store apps.
Code:
winget upgrade --all --include-unknown --accept-source-agreements
