On one computer, that I am pretty sure will take Windows 11, I ran Microsoft’s PC Health Check. It said The PC must support Secure Boot. I have a link that tells me what do to activate the Secure Boot. I ran msinfo32 on my Windows 11 machine and saw that Secure Boot was there, but it was turned off. So, my question is, once I activate Secure Boot on this Windows 10 machine should I set it to Off also?

Try on, any problems turn it off, I assume that it is turned on and off in ufei. When I bought this machine, it was on Win 10 and secure boot was turned on so I guess that is how it should be.

I appreciate both comments above. I looked at the WhyNotWin11 link and unless I am missing something, I believe it will tell me what the PC Health did. I was hoping it was a means to getting to the BIOS/UEFI interface but I think it just checks Windows 11 compatibility status. Thank you both for the replies.

OK, I have to ask, about filling in my computer specs, where do I do this? I may have missed it when creating an account here and now I can't find where to do that. If it is a screenshot of the msinfo32 I can easily do that but as far as this thread is concerned, it would not be accurate for the Windows 10 computer I am asking about. Thanks for any advice on how to fix this.

So, my question is, once I activate Secure Boot on this Windows 10 machine should I set it to Off also?
"Secure Boot" is a BIOS setting, so "turning it on or off" (enable/disable) would require entering the BIOS. Since Windows 11 requires Secure Boot, I see no reason whatsoever to turn it off after enabling it to install Windows 11. Leave it on and move on.

And if "Windows" is reporting Secure Boot off under System Information via msconfig32, then it is most likely (99.999 percent) off in the BIOS, and you will need to enable it there to get Windows to show it on.

You will need to follow the instructions for your specific board and manufacture for procedures for enabling Secure Boot (which also requires disabling CSM).

Hope this helps.

The reason I ask about Secure Boot being On or Off is my new Windows 11 machine came with it turned off and I was wondering why that would be the case.

I just posted the specs I have. Just curious, could the reason that the Secure Boot is of be because I asked for and had this computer set up to run like my Windows 10 computers? Start11 is a;so installed on it because I wanted everything to be the same or as close to the same as possible to my Win 10 machines.

Not at all sure how I'd post a link to my PC. It is not off the shelf. I had a local builder build it for me.

Apparently I need more help than I realized. I checked and my machine is using UEFI. I managed to get into it but once there made no changes. I found no Security Tab, as mentioned above. I looked at Advanced Settings and didn't find it there either. I'm very leery of making changes when I don't know what I'm doing. Any suggestions on how to locate the Secure Boot so I can turn it on would be appreciated.

Not surprising as there are many BIOS layouts and not all provide the same level of settings; especially where store bought PC's are concerned as some of those BIOS's can be locked down to prevent end users from making changes to certain settings.

That said, if your PC came with Windows 11 installed, chances are the BIOS was already configured to support the OS. As to why System Information says Secure Boot is off, I don't know, other than to say there was some discussion as to whether Secure Boot is actually a "requirement", but it's my understanding vendor PC's sold with the Windows 11 OS must also have secure boot enabled.

That said, I asked before, and you never replied... post what PC or at the very least link to the one you bought.

Good luck.

A small but handy program called CPU-Z will give you detailed information about your motherboard, CPU, memory, etc.
CPU-Z is more useful for custom systems then vendor builds. It's not going to answer the question of secure boot; even on a custom build that question isn't going to be answered by CPU-Z.
