Grr....Call of Duty forcing me to update my BIOS

We all just a need a reason to update or upgrade and it's not a bad thing.
The update alone is not a bad thing, my BIOS is 3 months old, but the consequences of anti-cheat software can be deadly. Some games can get you permanently banned, if you run process hacker in the background, I do run system informer, it's successor.

I once bricked a Pentium II about 20 some odd years ago trying to flash the BIOS. It was an old experimental board so it was no big loss. I believe that was the first and last time I bricked a BIOS. Today they've made the process so easy that about the only thing I could recommend is NOT to do it during an electrical storm. Of course, there is always the risk of messing up proprietary settings, fan speeds, lighting, clock speeds, etc. as there is a good chance of the BIOS setting to default. :::shrugs::: we pays our munny and takes our chances.

Yeah, I keep a document with all of my bios changes. Before I updated today. I verrified all of them. Once the update was done, they were all reset to factory defaults. So, I put them back in.

Its not a whole lot of stuff. Memory speeds, processor virtualization, changed up my q-fan step up and step down speeds and then put my custom q-fan fan curves back.

Yeah, it's a bit of a pain when it doesn't save your profile settings but it's a great relief when the job is out of the way. Congratulations! (y)

We all just a need a reason to update or upgrade and it's not a bad thing. We have to do it for one reason or the other. I've never had any BIOS update issue since I started building PC more than a decade ago.
Everyone with a bad experience in BIOS upgrade either personal or just heard of it, will hesitate to upgrade the BIOS. Even if it succeeds it might introduce unknown compatibilities. However, me as a professional computer Technician I have done it many times and I can say that incompatibilities are rare and on the contrary it improves compatibility. That's why I do it before reinstalling Windows. It's true, in the 90's upgrading the BIOS could change some devices description (hardware IDs) causing issues in Windows or even a BSOD until you also upgraded all the drivers to reflect the changes. Modern BIOS use standard device descriptions and don't suffer from that bug. Also since Windows 10 you can just remove the disk, put it in another computer and boot probably. It will detect and install most drivers from Windows Update and then it won't have any issues. The only problem is that you will need to activate Windows, Office and probably some more applications again.

I am currently wondering whether to buy "the best" game of the decade or not and this pushes me the other way around. 😗
I always loved COD MW games, but the latest ones were a disappointment, I refunded all of them. Hopefully this one will be OK.
I've got every Call of Duty since COD 1 up to requiring those TPM. Same with Battlefield. I'll need a new system to play titles that require TPM.

At least you run Windows 11. nVidia will soon stop supporting Windows 10 forcing everyone to upgrade to Windows 11 if they haven't yet. I believe it's a matter of time before Intel and AMD do that too.
