I have a bootable Windows 11 25H2 thumb drive with the latest build (26200.8875). When I boot from it and choose to repair my system, it should run the Windows Revery Environment (Windows RE). However, it simply causes the system to reboot. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

seems there is bug with the recovery environment in boot.wim

you could extract winre.wim into the sources folder and boot that instead

Perhaps that is Microsoft's fix/workaround for the yellowkey bug... so you no longer can boot from an USB into recovery to bypass bitlocker.*lol*:winkt:

How did you make the thumb drive?
All latest Microsoft ISO files have that boot.wim bug that causes the reboot of the main OS instead of going to Recovery.
The ones made from uup-dump did not have the problem, but I have not tried 26200.8875 yet, last one I tried was 26200.8737 and it works fine. 🤷‍♂️

The original mitigation script for YellowKey mounted the WinRE image, and remove one entry from the SYSTEM hive. Presumably that fix was trivial to roll into later WinRE images.

I was just joking. ;-)
I never looked into that CVE how it actually did work, as i dont have anyone around me that would be effected so i needed to help them... People around me run Mac, Linux and two have win10.. and windows 10 was never effected by yellowkey.. only win11 was.

From within Windows you can hold down Shift then, while continuing to hold down Shift, select restart and the system will boot into recovery environment.

I just made a bootable USB device from a 26200.8875 iso built from uup-dump and I can get to recovery without the problem that is affecting all the Microsoft recent ISO files. 👍

Had to split install.wim into 3 .swm, so that they can fit on a FAT32 bootable drive.
Looks like using uup-dump is still a workaround to the Microsoft bug that they keep propagating to all their recent official ISO files. 🤞🤷‍♂️

I wrote my own program to create the image
:-)

But I have the issue with some previous builds that I have official MS ISOs for as well.

Well, there is a known bug in boot.wim that is waiting for a Microsoft fix.
The ISO files created from uup-dump don't have that bug. (At least up to now. 🤞)
The latest MCT 26200.8873 has still the same bug. 🤬🤷‍♂️
