I haven't tried it, but since it's git hub, It would be so complicated and obfuscated, it would take weeks to decipher enough to use it. :)

You need a Phd in advanced Git-ology to understand github. Those guys are real serious egg-heads.

Alternatively, download the official Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft (scroll down third option), use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive with compatibility check removed. For a clean installation (format), boot from this USB and proceed as usual. To upgrade an earlier version or do an in-place upgrade/repair run Setup from Windows, don't boot it. After installation use Winaero Tweaker to change any settings you like.

Nobody realizes they can just "Apply" the Windows Image - rather then having to go through the whole Setup Process, for a Clean Install....

My Win 10 machines have LOTS of apps and files.
Is there a way to use flyoobe to update (not upgrade) those machines to Win 11 while keeping all apps and files?
(Is this called an "inplace upgrade"?)
Please don't get philosophical - I just want a straight answer.

Yes, although you can also download the ISO, download Rufus and use it to create a USB flash drive with the compatibility check removed. Then simply disconnect from the internet (to avoid a secret online compatibility check failing the upgrade) and run Setup from the USB. If you don't want to use Rufus you can mount the ISO (aka Open with File Explorer) and check which drive letter is the virtual DVD with the files, say D. Then open a Command Prompt and run this command:

D:\setup /product server

This tricks Setup it is installing a Server version and skips compatibility check, but in fact it installs Windows 11. See relevant sticky thread for more details on installing Windows 11 on unsupported computers.

spapakons - I really want to talk about flyoobe only. And three of my Dell Optiplex/Precisions are Ok for Win 11 but are currently running Win 10.
So, again, how does one use flyoobe to to the update/upgrade to Win 11 while keeping all apps and files?

I haven't used that, but you should run it from inside Windows to upgrade, not boot from the USB. They should have a guide on their website.

Why do you need anything other than the Windows 11 image if the machines are Win 11 compatible?

1) Maybe I'm missing something, but won't simply running Win 11 delete everything on my PC? So I'm focused on the update/upgrade to Win 11 that will keep all apps and files.

You can do an update of Windows and retain your data and settings, that's been a standard feature for years (decades?). I do recommend a full backup before doing the upgrade, but it shouldn't lose any data or applications.

You can also use Windows Update to do the task without manually downloading anything.

Open Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Check for Updates: Click on "Check for Updates".
Find the Feature Update: If your PC is compatible, a "Feature update to Windows 11" will appear.
Download and Install: Click "Download and install" to begin the upgrade process.
Verify File Retention: On the "Ready to Install" screen, confirm that the option to keep personal files and apps is selected.

The bottom line here is to simply update from Win10 to Win11 and keep your files and applications, you don't need flyoobe or any other 3rd party application. Windows has the capability internally that can be invoked in several ways. This assumes, as you state, that the machines are "Windows 11 ready" and meet all the requirements for Windows 11 installations.

Looks like a tool for the hardcore Windows users. For me I haven't had a single problem with the standard MS ways of installing or upgrading Windows since I cannot remember when so I cannot think of a single sensible reason why I need this tool. Finally got to agree with a comment above, the documentation on Github is next to non-existent.

Windows keeps notifying me with this but the last time I tried it on this PC it was an utter disaster. Rollbacks would not work, backups all failed. Good thing I had a CLONE handy. I even called Microsoft. All they told me to do was reinstall the OS. Yes, this is a Windows 11 ready PC verified as such by MS. I advise people who are concerned about their personal data to opt for dual boot. 1) Turn off PC. 2) Open the unit and disconnect the C drive with the OS on it. 3) Leave only the drive you want Windows 11 on connected. If you have nothing else connected put in a drive that you want Windows 11 to go on and connect it. 4) Insert media with Win 11 installation application. 5) Boot up the PC and boot up the installation. 6) Install Windows 11. After this is done turn off the PC and reconnect all your disconnected drives. At this point you should be able to boot to whichever operating system you like from your UEFI/BIOS. You can even drag and drop or copy over files

via Disk Management from Win 10 to Win 11 IF you wish. Just my advice. That's it. That's all.

If you opt for this method instead of doing a fresh install I recommend you make a clone of your Win 10 drive first and tuck it away somewhere safe. Windows has offered upgrades like this for ages and they are notoriously reputed to fail. With a clone you're set to experiment. If it works out, great! If it goes sideways, well at least you didn't lose anything if you cloned your OS. In other words, backups cannot always be relied upon.

I do an image backup using Acronis True Image, I've restored them many times without any issue. Other than a clone taking a lot more space and usually requiring a whole physical drive, what's the difference? I can store multiple boot images on my NAS and have lots of choices as to how far back I go.

Has anyone tried this new method?
