The cloud Act is why EU is starting to move away from Microsoft Onedrive as they can be ordered to hand over the data.. The Swedish Microsoft CEO(or what it is called) did say in an interview that she would try to stop it do to GDPR but could not guarantee and could never answer if so...as they get gag orders that prevent them from ever notifying customers of requests for their data.

So yes.. you have encryption, but it is not end-to-end as MS can hand over the data in readable format.

Yes. There is also the Personal Vault, with added protections, but MSFT has the keys for that also. You can always encrypt the data yourself and sync that to OneDrive (or any clouds), and then no one can open it but you.

I do not use any version of OneDrive. I used @glasskuter 's directions on how to remove it.

Seems no one can make a thread about OneDrive without the trolls coming out with "I don't use OneDrive." Good for you. It doesn't help solve the OP's problem in the least to keep making noise about it.

I've often thought that a person should be required to take a basic intelligence test before being allowed to purchase a computer.

That's not what this thread is about. Someone has an issue with their OneDrive client that was working until recently. But yet, people feel the need to chime in that they don't use it, helping no one.

A lot of the hostility is because it's enabled by default and many of the user's out there don't know about it. They're uploading files to the cloud and aren't even aware of it.

Now that may be a hard phenomena (or concept) for the more technically savvy to grasp, but nonetheless, it's out there.

I’m aware of the complaints with OneDrive, mostly because people bring them up ad nauseam. It’s not necessary to mention it in every thread about OneDrive.

I’ll give a different example. I don’t back up my PC. For me, it’s a waste of time. I think I’ve only mentioned this twice (plus now), and I stay out of threads about backups unless I can provide something useful.

Yeah but the original poster didn't notice he was running out of space until a few days after he believed it started happening. Again, it's something (some) people don't notice until it's too late. One Drive seems to have a 'mind' of it's own and will do things by default unless you actively go in there and stay on top of it and don't rely on it's automated settings. Automated settings that are once again, set by default and can't be trusted by many out there.

Hence, you have, "Has OneDrive gone insane?!" show up around here.

But it does serve to indicate that an OP (or client) is not alone in the OD mish-mash, and gives a general indication of the pitfalls and dangers, and an indication whether its worthwhile pursuing usage.
