Hasleo Backup Suite

Thanks for the update. (y) The latest version I had was v5.4.2.1. Will download this version and install it over the old one. (Will automatically deinstall the old one)
Yes it does it same way even when initiated from Hasleo itself. t still retains all settings.

Yes. Just because the settings I let Hasleo decide. After the update it remembers all settings. Don't have to start from scratch. That's why it complains that the directory already exists. Install it anyway? Yes please!!!

Maybe there is one drawback or I just don't know how. At the start it sees my latest backup's I've made. But in that one directory there are 2 backup's with the same name with the only one difference; 20251012_Full_V1_1.DBI and 20251013_Full_V3_1.DBI. I can restore them separately if I want by browsing to them. (The difference is a cleanup of the Download directory. The first one (V1.1) is 44Gb and the second one (V3.1) is 33Gb) Because V1.1 is not visible (only V3.1) I can not mount the V1.1 image. I could only find the backup destination inside the registry, No other separate files inside the Hasleo directory and all the Appdata Local/LocalLow and Roaming directory's and the OneDrive/Appdata directory. There must be some settings file (*.ini) which tells Hasleo these are the backup's I see....

I tried to do that by transferring the V1.1 backup to an other directory and gave it a different name #1 and dito filename. But to no reveil it only sees still the #2 and dito filename only. Inside tools I could not find any tools to persuade Hasleo to see the #1 backup also. I have the same problem with an older backup. After an complete new Windows 11 25H2 install all that information went up into smokes. I could not find any .ini files where "only these directory's are registered." exists. (I that case I could add them) So I am clueless..... Maybe someone has an idea?.....

Change version. It is in small blue letters. Does it show up there ?

The only problem with hasleo is the lettering is damn small

It seems to automatically display the most recent. Click change version to select a different one before clicking the Mount button.

@SIW2 Thanks oddly enough that worked. Time between those backups (V1 and V3) was 1 day. I had to move the V1 back again to the original backup directory. With change version I could see 2 versions. I had a second location with the same story where I could only see the most recent one. I moved an similar other backup in that directory that I made 4 months ago. Tried it. It saw only the recent one. I gave it a name which looks the same as the recent one. (Name of the backup file) tried it again. I could only see the recent one. But now there were 2 V1 versions with a different timestamp and a different date inside the filename. But similar buildup of name. So I gave the older file "the version V3" but to no avail. It only saw the most recent one.

I am still convinced that Hasleo must have a .ini or config file somewhere. In theory if it looked inside the backup location and scanned this directory for directory's with backups inside them it should see it from the start. But it don't. Something else dictate "only those are valid directory's and backups I know today". It takes no account that there are other directory's with older backups (made with older Hasleo software versions) in the same backup directory.

YES!!! Somewhat a breakthrough on this .ini or config subject. I found out where that information is stored. Inside the C:\ProgramData\Hasleo Backup Suite directory. The are 3 "SQLLite format 3" DB files called;

- LocalFolder.db
- NetConnect.db
- OperationsLog.db

These files creates a temporary table and fill this table with it's content. These DB file serves 2 purposes. 1: Create a temporary table, and 2: Fill it with data. (which also resides in the same file)

The first 2 contain tables which does not change much. The LocalFolder.db table contains only the backup location. That does not change very much. The second one; NetConnect.db shows how to connect to the internet to look for newer versions.

OperationsLog,db does contain information which backup directory's it sees with the backup files inside them. I just have to use a simple SQLLite editor to see it's content. At a first look I can see the 3 directory's inside the backup location. But it's tied to an GUID and the relation is difficult to understand. I just have to find out where this GUID Hasleo get it from. I see many GUID's inside the registry plenty of times. But despite those 3 directory's Hasleo show me only 2. So if the db says 3 directory's and show me 2 what's wrong here?.... To be continued.

Do any of you good members use full/max compression in a Hasleo backup? If so, ever had a bad experience?

The only bad experience you will have is the saturation of all your CPU cores/threads may affect your System's response. This depends on CPU in use. The compression method is very safe, no issues.

To be honest. Who in their right mind would do very intensive stuff with their system while backing up the C-drive? If a backup takes a complete backup of the C-drive with a duration of 5 minutes nobody want take the risk that files that are backup at the start and other files at the end differs when both files have an important relation with each other.

It's always wise to have no heavy programs running while making an backup. I don't think the Hasleo isn't that CPU heavy. In the end it alle depends on the user using compression. I backup my C-drive with a low compression rate. The only thing that is heavy is the load on the disk. If you set your compression rate to high then yes; you will give your CPU an additional heavy task: beside backing up your data it also has to compress it in order to reduce the backup file size. It will take also more time to backup if you don't have a fast CPU. The same will be restoring an backup. It will take more time to restore with high then it would with low. So you must take your system specs into account and alter settings that will give you a good and fast backup. Those backups are a real lifesaver when things go wrong. Yes I also learned my lessons the hard way! Lost everything with no backup......Fxxx....

I will you give an example what I have and do while I am backup my C-drive. (having a fast system does help)
- No programs are running while I made the backup. Except a couple standard programs (incl. 3rd-party) that started when Windows started. (Win11, 25H2)
- I have a good CPU; Intel i7-12700K; 12-core (8 Performance-cores, 4 Efficient-cores), 20 threads. A 12th Gen CPU.
- C-drive; a 250GB NVMe Samsung 960 EVO. Not a very fast drive. Filled (Current) with 87Gb of Windows data. (cleaned junk files and cleaned the registry first)
- Backup drive a 2TB NVMe Samsung 990 Pro. A very fast drive.
- A recent complete backup file of the C-drive with a low compression rate is 34Gb stored on my backup drive.
- Time it took to make a full backup: 1 Minute.
- Time to do a full verify of that backup: 36 seconds.

What I love at the Hasleo backup software; you can do it online (Disk is accessible (off course) and (worse) Windows is running) with no repercussions.
There is a better and saver way though. This online backup is unusual: backing up while Windows is up and running (Some process or services can lock files and granting no access (for reading) to them or worse altering their content!) A better way is to prepare a WinPE image, boot from it and make the backup. (offline backup) Like it is the case when Hasleo restores a backup. Unfortunately I see no option inside the Hasleo software for making an offline backup.

I will investigate this further and asking Hasleo for an answer. (If you want a 1000% save backup this is the way to do it; offline backup)

Well, Re. using offline backups, I do not agree as that is so 1980/90's Ghost style backups.

All modern mainstream imaging tools use VSS.

Saying it is safer to do an offline backup is just not true anymore.
I have been using VSS based tools for years making backups online without any issues.

Also, offline backups cannot be done to a schedule - reach backup is an adhoc one off.

Re. offline backup, its there built in.

Create an emergency usb flash drive or boot entry (should have a flash drive in case hard drive fails).

Boot from drive or boot entry, make backup.

Indeed, I use both (BOOT/USB) and I never had a problem restoring Hasleo backup from another partition.

Since there were no answers in my other thread:
Macrium Reflect, AOMEI Backupper and Hasleo Backup Suite - GUIDES
For what it's worth here's what I did.
1. Made a fresh full backup of 500GB Disk with Windows 11 Insider Beta. (321GB).
2, Made a full backup of 2TB disk which had about 350GB of data in one simple partition.
3, Restored backup of Insider Beta to 2TB disk, that deleted everything on that disk and restored all partitions need to BOOT and run, left the rest of disk unallocated.
4. Formed a simple partition in unallocated space on 2TB disk and allocated a letter for it.
5. Mounted backup of 2TB disk and copied all data from it to newly formed partition on. All done from regular 25H2 from it's own disk.
6. Adjusted in Msconfig.exe to have dual BOOT with Insider Beta.

Took few hours (despite all disks being fast NVMe SSDs) but Hasleo did it without problems. Too bad it's missing option to restore just designated partitions without having to delete everything previously on target disk, that would make this operation in one step.
Previous Samsung 970 Evo+ installed in a USB 3.2-c adapter to use as external instead of previous NVMe 240GB. for which I'll get another USB adapter.

Exactly that. Windows have 4 partitions including C:, When you make backup and restore it to another disk, everything on that target disk is deleted even if there was enough space for all.

Yes, I think you can. You choose system restore, then next, and in the top right corner, you switch to advanced mode, and on the target disk, you choose where to restore the four system partitions, one partition of the target disk for example (an unallocated space, I don't know). The four partitions will be restored to this partition without deleting the rest.

I just tried it, but without restoring.

The target disk must have at least two partitions, or one partition and unallocated space (in advanced mode with Hasleo, you can choose unallocated space for the restore).
Backup software does not create partitions. They can rearrange the partitions that need to be restored, size and drag with the unallocated space after choosing the location where to restore them. This is why you must prepare the target disk if it only has one partition with data.
With partition management software, on your 2TB disk that contained data, you should have to create a partition (or unallocated space) at the beginning of the disk to restore the four system partitions.
