Hasleo Backup Suite


I just downloaded the latest version to put on my new miniPC. Everything went ok setting up the job except when I set the Schedule to 4AM Daily, it would not highlight the OK button to save the schedule.

I checked the 2 boxes, Wake, and Run Missed, but it would not let me save it.

Any ideas?

also, I want to save the original backup (that check box is obvious),
plus a FULL image on next run (day), and then the next 6 days incremental, then
do that again for the second week, then repeat, but delete images older then 2 weeks old.
[the second day does NOT have to be a full image, the incrementals can be attached to the first full image if it is easier to set the retention rules]

Can someone help with the two issues?

:unsure:It was definitely NOT working. Even though it was not "lighted" as a choice, I still tried because there were not that many options, so it would not seem like I made any errors, but clicking on OK did nothing before this post. I had to press the X in the schedule window and do a manual backup.

After your reply, I tried again and it DID look like OK was a valid choice and it accepted my schedule. I tried a quick one just now to test and the backup went as scheduled.

What is with so many companies these days that they don’t add the version number to their downloads? Not going to sign up just to say “what the hell?”
It’s not a massive issue, can rename. But seems like a no-brainer just to label versions..

Testing Hasleo again the "emergency" USB fails to create a backup. Tried three times and errors out. It only means that you will have to install Hasleo on all your machines to accomplish a backup. I successfully restored a partition though.

I can´t confirm this. I successfully created an image from the boot UFD using Hasleo 4.9.1.

Can someone please confirm how Hasleo uses incremental backups?

- How many incremental backups does it do before a new Full Backup?
- If I need to restore, do I select the most recent incremental backup and it will link it to the last full backup?

I ask because I have always done Full backups...but incremental is nice and fast..just want to make sure I understand what it's doing should I need to restore from one someday. Thanks.

Answers...

1. It depends on you, the user. You need to set up your imaging and retention schedule. Otherwise it'll only do what it's told, manually.

2. Yes, it will use all images, incl the last FULL, in the image chain to accomplish the restoration.

The only useful purpose of a "sector by sector" backup would be for forensic purposes when examining disk content for serious issues concerning DATA that;s not part of the used partition.

As well, when used on an SSD, if the TRIM function of the OS is on, most of the unused DATA space on that partition will be useless even to a forensic examination due to how the TRIM process works in the SSD.

IMHO...

Is it normal for Hasleo not to allow selection of Recovery partition when doing a system image? On my desktop it does...on my laptop it does not. Selecting Disc/Partition mode (instead of System mode) allows it. Is this normal...desktop is older so is that why it is included in the image? Thanks.

I believe so, you need to do a Disk Partition backup image. I’ve never been able to select another partition when doing a System Image backup.

I don’t know how, I can’t on either my desktop or my laptop. Regardless that there is an extra partition unselected in the System Image Backup. (2nd recovery drive)

Saving off site is always a good idea -- but I'd suggest if you have a fire or floods - you've got much bigger issues to contend with than worrying about data on a computer !!!. -- I'd suggest a more likely scenario is home gets visited by "Uninvited guests", or your laptop "goes missing" at Airport security etc -- seems those crowded airports in Europe e.g Rome, Gatwick (UK - the absolute pits almost of any airport I've ever been in BTW) , Athens, Milan etc where there's zillions of people in security and people all over the place so laptops can easily be "picked up" by people who just chance their luck.
