Has anyone done many restorations with this?
I'd be interested to know about its reliability.

Only twice but between 2 computers, it worked perfectly.

Quite a few, because I mess around too much. Yet to have a fail.

I currently use it as my PRIMARY imaging tool (with Macrium Reflect as my BACKUP). Have done 80-90 restorations as a PRIMARY without issue. They have been a mixed bag of SYSTEM, DISK & PARTITION restores... all worked as expected and fast.

I just did another restore. I have almost concluded that I use restore so often I am thinking of adding the option to enter the Hasleo environment in the boot menu (can do so through the Tools options “Add boot menu”)

I find the restore really fast. However, what I find annoying is that restoring via Hasleo in Windows, each time I choose an image to restore, Hasleo wants to create the WinPE before reboot for restore — Hence the Boot option.
It’s faster than Hasleo creating it before reboot and it’s faster than booting to a USB (IMO)
You can set the boot menu to 3sec or more so it really isn't a hindrance (Again IMO)

Once Hasleo has created the ISO it uses for the BOOT menu (or the Emergency Disk), it should always be available for the LIVE Windows reBOOT without reCreation (on my System that's how it works).

Froggie, I find that opening Hasleo from within Windows, it always creates the WinPE before rebooting to restore an image.

One obvious reason for this could be that due to the fact I restore an image that has was not created when the bootable WinPE had already been created, it needs to create it. It would stand to reason. I’ve not taken much notice of it other than to say “Here we go again” but generally, after I press OK I walk away, so I am just being a bit of a drama queen.

Though thinking about it, it’s not always the case. I have made images that I created after a restore then created them again for particular purposes “After” the WinPe had been create for the boot.. If I gave it 15 minutes to figure it out, I probably would.

Of course the USB is a different story, always reliable.

3 seconds for a boot menu is nothing. It takes me longer to stand up from sitting.

@antspants - I've retested my above assertions (I never do LIVE restores since my original testing) and the baseline is... only if the necessary internal ISO has not been created in either the BOOT Menu process, or Emergency Disk process (UFD or ISO) will the LIVE locked partition restore need to create such during the restoration process. All (4) of those processes (LIVE Restore, BOOT Menu creation or Emergency Disk creation (UFD or ISO) need that special internal ISO to function without re-creation.

Not sure what you're experiencing...

I've given up on using Hasleo Backup Suite Free. Here's what happened:

A friend's Win11 PC suddenly developed a problem of getting an "Invalid password" when doing a power on boot into Win11. No idea why that happened. We used the same password that she's been using and verified that it was correct by clicking "show password". After multiple tries, Win11 locked up and disabled its password entry. IOW, Win11 was now dead in the water.

*1 So to get her backup, I used the Hasleo emergency flash drive (that I had made for her on her Win11 PC when she first got it about 5 months ago) and restored her last system drive image backup. Mind bogglingly, the same "Invalid Password" problem happened on booting Win11! How could that have happened with a restore of a known good image backup that was done when her Win11 password was working fine?

*2 So I used the Win11 troubleshooter and reset Win11 to see if the PC could even run Win11. After the reset, the PC booted into Win11 OK. But as expected via the Win11 reset, she lost all of her installed programs. (She did not lose any of her data since I had set her up with a separate D drive for data only, when she first got this Win11 PC.)

THE HASLEO RESTORE PROBLEM:
Now that we knew that the PC could run Win11 OK (apparently not a hardware problem), I tried to restore the same system image backup that I just did in the "*1" paragraph above. I booted the emergency flash drive but this time when I selected "Restore", the link to the backup drive was grayed out. Why did this happen when it was OK in the *1 paragraph above???

I selected "Home" in Hasleo and there's an option there to initiate a restore. But when I clicked that restore option, Hasleo displayed an error code (don't remember what it was). So there was no way to initiate the restore of her last backup using the emergency flash drive. I rebooted into the emergency flash drive again but the same problems occurred. Why did those problems happen when I was able to do a restore in the *1 paragraph OK previously?

THE FIX:
I booted back into the reset version of Win11 (*2) and downloaded and installed Hasleo. In that version, I was able to select the Home tab and when I clicked the restore option, it worked! I restored the system image backup (*1) and it restored successfully.

Amazingly, the same invalid password problem occurred. But this time we noticed that in small letters there was an option to reset her Win11 password. So I clicked it and after answering the 3 Win11 security questions, was able to create a new Win11 password. Shutdown and on power on boot, the new Win11 password worked! She was backup and running fine on her restored Win11.

NOT SURE:
Not sure if the "reset password" option was on her original "Invalid Password" problem. It probably was but we didn't notice it due to it being in such small letters. Had we noticed it, we could have avoided doing the Hasleo restore.

SUMMARY:
She's been running fine on her restored Win11 for about 2 weeks now. No problems at all. Why the Hasleo emergency flash drive failed to allow doing a restore the second time is unknown. Thank goodness installing the latest version of Hasleo in the reset version of Win11 and running the restore from there worked. Am going back to the last free version of Macrium Reflect for both her and my PCs.

My notebook's 1TB Toshiba SSD ran out of space after I upgraded my system memory from 32GB to 64GB as the system managed pagefile and hibernation files are larger in size since they are e and determined by the size of the system memory so the system would boot with 30GB free but will run down to 0%/0GB free causing the opened software to crash. The notebook only has 1 slot so I ordered the Samsung 990Pro 4TB SSD and a external enclosure that is USB3.2 that will take anything from 2242 to 2280, not sure why 2230 is not supported. But anyways, I want to basically have a identical drive including all partitions, I will then expand the partitions using another tool. My questions are with Hasleo Backup Suite, am I correct that the only difference between cloning and imaging is that the imaging will have a backup as files on a external HDD? Is there a way to keep the partitions in the same order so the recovery partition would be the same location? Thanks in advance!

When you restore an image, the partitions are restored in exactly the same order as when the backup is created.

Re imaging backup - think of the backup file as being like a zip fike containing all data needed (including partition layout).

Cloning is specifically designed to copy and existing hard drive to a new one.

Imaging's main use is to restore existing hard drive to state at time of backup. You can have multiple backups. Most users keep at least two latest copies so of one fails, you can use another.

You can restore an image to a new drive i.e. indirectly cloning.

You should be able to resize the partitions when doing the restore from an image backup, so a one step activity for the larger drive and no need for another tool.

Thanks @cereberus for the fast response. Have never done image backups before, only cloning and the last time was probably 11 years ago. I thought the difference between cloning vs imaging is the first one is more of a sector to sector copy of the entire partition or drive while the other one will only backup only data and not empty space.

I guess imaging basically requires something to hold the image and in my case, since this is a notebook, I am trying to keep the backups portable so the largest 2.5" drives that are external are 6TB, I have only the Western Digital MyPassport 5TB so I will only be able to hold one backup on each drive assuming that my 4TB drive is completely full and probably need multiple external 5TB drives, one for each backup or maybe the split backup function will work too but not sure if mounting a image as a local drive will be a issue if it was split. Does Hasleo allow backing up and restoring from a NAS which might be a better way to go if that is possible. Another thought is I still have a Windows XP desktop, can that actually be backed up and restored from a NAS? Another question I have is can I first do the drive image first to the external 5TB drive and then swap the original 1TB Toshiba SSD with the new 4TB Samsung 990Pro SSD which is unpartitioned and then restore from the image to the 4TB? If so, does Hasleo provide something bootable on USB that hopefully can be put on Ventoy to accomplish that? Thanks!

Thanks so Hasleo actually allows changing just the Windows partition from what current size to whatever space still remains unpartitioned on the target storage device? I was thinking of the worse case scenario where I may need to use Minitool Partition Wizard or Disk Genius to expand the partition if the backup software didn't provide that function. Maybe that has more to do with cloning.
