Solved Help With Conhost.exe

I am trying to use ZTreeW64 while running Win11/Pro.

I encounter this warning that makes no sense to me. The workarounds involve processes I cannot seem to understand .

I'm a long time user of ZTree and XTree before it. Windows11 is getting it to work properly.

At 86, my vision is compromised and my comprehension of technical instructions is also failing. I'd really appreciate someone interpreting the 'Special Notice' instructions below into more basic instructions.

Special Notice for Windows 11 Users:
Windows 11 comes with a new 'terminal' program that runs console applications, and doesn't allow ZTree to automatically resize the window, causing text to wrap and skew the display. Fortunately there are several possible workarounds:

• Change your ZTree shortcut target e.g.: 'CONHOST.EXE C:\ZTREE\ZTW64.EXE'
  (i.e. insert CONHOST.EXE in the command line)
• Go to the Terminal Settings (right mouse click on the window title) and change Default terminal application to 'Windows Console Host.'
• Run ZTree with the /AUTO option to adopt the terminal dimensions,
  eg. C:\ZTREE\ZTW64.EXE /AUTO'

Not sure what to tell you—three different (and easy) solutions are presented in your post. You already know what to do...

How are you launching ZTree? If it's via a Desktop shortcut, right-click it, click Properties, and Windows will highlight the current target for you. Just adjust it according to the first or last solution you presented above and click [OK].

A potential fourth solution: Uninstall the Windows Terminal app. This will restore the original behavior/environment ZTree is expecting.

Uninstalling Terminal will break CMD completely, it will always run minimized and hidden.

Uhh what? I have 3 windows 11 25h2 PCs without terminal installed right now and command prompt & powershell both run perfectly fine on them all…

That "bug" is present on the latest Insider. It took me a few weeks and reinstalls to figure it out.

i dont follow any insider builds. would explain why ive never seen anything like that.

Thank you to the team who all contributed to my understanding how to get ZTree working for me again. You all rock!

For any of you who have not discovered ZTreeWin. Yes, it looks antiquated but hidden within what you see is a powerful collection of software. Take a look for yourselves. It dates back to XTree which more than once helped me find a 'lost' file back in the 1980's.
