Help with Downloading online dictionary

Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place for this. Can anyone help me? I'm trying to download the GNU Collaborative International Dictionary of English GNU Collaborative International Dictionary of English

I don't know where to begin. It is literally all Greek to me and I want to cry.

Could someone here get me started in the right direction? I'd be so grateful for your help. Thank you!

The download does not seem to work in the link you provided.

Try the first download in this link: gcide.git - GNU Collaborative International Dictionary of English

The download is encoded in the GZ compressed file format, which is a native UNIX/LINUX file format. Don't know of a utility that will uncompress the file on a Windows Operating System. Others here might be able to help.

The challenge isn't extracting the GCIDE files, but the only supported browser is Linux-dependent (TCL/Tk). No native software exists for Windows, and installing Windows Subsystem for Linux would be overkill.

If you just wanted to search individual word definitions, the original site has a query form in the top left.

Not sure what you want to get accomplished here. But you can use StarDict or GoldenDict . You can download GCIDE and a lot more dictionaries from this page StarDict Dictionaries -- 星际译王词库 just ignore the certificate warning. You can extract the dictionaries with 7zip, extract the folder with the .dz .idx and .ifo files into the program dictionaries folder.

Or.. you can just use google like: "define:word" and you will get its definition.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. I'll give the link a go but seems, from what you say, that I may have no luck with it. I'll let you know.

Thanks very much - I appreciate it. I realize it has a search function but I would like to set up a database for a specific purpose. I'll see what iko22's suggestion yields.
