Windows 10
I have an 83-year-old neighbor. I bought a Logitech wireless mouse for her for Christmas. Her PC is brand new. I have been pairing Logitech products for years. The problem: (1) I connected the receiver to a USB port. (2) downloaded and installed unifying software (3) using the software when I get to the window that instructs to turn the device (mouse) off and then back on. No pairing happens. I first suspected maybe she had a faulty usb port, I tested the port and it read a flash drive I had so it is a working port. I also tried using a different usb port with the same results. This may not be the correct forum for my issue. I did try the Logitech community forum and found it not to help. I still have Windows 10 on my PC. Since she has Windows 11 and I have not yet familiarized myself with Windows 11 by using it. Maybe it could be a Windows 11 change I am not aware of. Maybe I will get lucky and someone on this forum will have experienced the issue.

Thanks for any ideas.

First thing I suggest trying is: make sure you have the proper software.
Some older mice can still pair using the old Set Point software, most newer mice need the new Logitech Options software.
Take it from there...

It would help if we knew the exact model of the mouse.

With most Logitech wireless mice it is just plug and play. No need for any software at all.

Just a quick thought, did you check the batteries? Either too old or inserted incorrectly.

That is an odd situation. In addition to providing the mouse version, such as @SlicEnDicE mentioned, it might help to know what the computer brand and model are.

I have an MX Master 3 Logitech mouse. It was plug and play. I had to install Logitech Options to get the buttons functioning, but it worked as a stock mouse without the software.

Have you tried out the mouse and dongle on your system to see if it's either the mouse or the dongle that might be the issue?

I have an MX Master 3 Logitech mouse.
Logitech Master 2S here and 25+ other Logitech mice plus many keyboards using the Unifying receiver and they all have been plug and play.

Some I re-paired though, so I can use one receiver for multiple devices.

The mouse is Logitech M325 it is newly purchased but it's been around a long time. Her computer model is HP 22-DF0023W it is an AIO. I had to visit my neighbor to get the model number. That is why my replies were not sooner. While I was there I noticed her PC still has Windows 10 on it. I assumed because her PC was purchased new in December it would have, through Windows update at least have 11 on it. I could run Windows update manually and she would then have 11. I like to resolve issues one at a time. I have been a member of this forum series since Windows 7. If I should have initiated this topic on tenforum.com I apologize. I believe I can receive the help I need here as easily as I could on ten forum I and would prefer not to be requested to go there as I would have to start this topic from scratch.

Thank you for helping

Hi, Marshall. This Microsoft Answers forum response might or might not have solutions for you:

You might try to update to Windows 11. It could be that the laptop isn't compatible with W11, though. I'd cross that bridge when I get to it, though.

I did check the battery was inserted correctly. I am wondering if the mouse could have been faulty straight from the box. I have extra M325 mice laying around. I will try one that I know is working to test.

Had the same problem with M590. Gave up on usb and used Bluetooth instead.
Read your post, gave it another try and got it working.

Download unifying250.exe from Logitech and install.
Open the program if not already and click advanced.
If the mouse is paired but not working click on the mouses name and then unpair it.
Now you can click to pair a new device.
This can take nearly a minute so wait it out.

Hope this helps, Ciao.

PS. typo, now to not.

I did get a message from her PC that a USB device is malfunctioning (probably not exact wording). Device manager shows only HID complient mouse. I left the USB receiver plugged in and restarted the PC device manager still the same. I haven't given up, but I am about ready just to try a Microsoft wireless mouse because the price of a new mouse (assuming and I bet it would work) is simpler than spending days trying to get a 20 dollar mouse working. I haven't given up yet though. Everyone that has offered help, thank you.

Is the Usb receiver visible under the advanced tab in the Logitech unifying software?

Dear Han Jansen, I will check the advanced options to find out tomorrow as the PC is not here with me. I do know it did not pair as indicated by the unifying software. That doesn't mean that somehow a pairing didn't occur. I will look into your suggestion tomorrow. It has unifying250.exe. Thank you.

I just ordered a Microsoft Bluetooth wireless mouse. Bluetooth is built into her PC. I will use the M325 I gave her as a backup for myself. I will mark this thread as resolved if the new mouse works. I ordered it from Amazon and it should be here Friday.

Thanks to everyone.
