Hibernation suddenly broke on Windows 11 24H2

no. its to increase your hibernation file size as this has been known to cause timeout hibernate issues when the manual implementation of hibernation still works.

I think there was some Windows update, however.. breaking hibernation timer is something odd. Not sure repair install will help here. I just thought there might be some registry tweak solution, but seems like there's none.

Okay, once again, how do i make sure that the hibernation file size is fixed?

not tracking what you're asking...
you just change the size with that command line. it will allow the file size to increase dynamically to whatever you set it to.
disable fast startup and then run that command in elevated cmd. change 'nn' to 60 and reboot and try to set hibernate to 1 min to see if it kicks in

Okay thanks for your advice, but I'll pass. I don't get anything. I don't know which command line, what size i should set, what is "nn" to 60.... Not sure ChatGPT will translate it to me as well. I'm not that advanced user.

I see, i should disable fast startup and set this nn to 60 and check. Okay will do it. How do I then recover the file size to default?

okay thanks! I just did what you suggested - disabled fast startup and set the size to 60. Rebooted twice - first after setting this. Then again after verifying that all power settings are fine and that the timer was set to 1 min. Unfortunately, it didn't help. My PC didn't hibernate. I appreciate tho your insight, it sounds reasonable among the options available.

I also checked just in case if disabling fast startup would remove the glitch when PC can't wake up after manually activating sleep mode with a button. Unfortunately this wasn't also fixed. I still don't get why sleep on timer takes around 10-12 sec to put PC on sleep, with button it takes like around 3 sec after display goes dark, but PC won't wake up properly. Like different script is triggered... which I can't even control.

disconnect your internet and set the hibernate timeout to 1 minute. wait and see if it hibernates

sure! thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately this also didn't change anything :( This is all so weird tbh.... it was working perfectly for a year till 19 Dec. I understand if i changed hardware components, updated my Windows to the new version or reinstalled it completely, or even if i had some serious damage of the system so that I would have to restore it. But none of this happened. I just kept using my PC - browsing web, playing games. Left my PC to upload some video overnight and in the morning woke up and saw it didn't hibernate. That's how it started.

Sleep was always set to never for me, and hibernation was set to 180 mins. That's how it worked for a year. Now for test I set sleep to never, and hibernate to 1 min.

Sleep is working after 1 min, yes. And like i said, with hybrid mode disabled, PC can go to sleep and wake up by timer. But i can't use sleep on button cause it won't wake up. So now i have the following configuration: sleep is working on timer, and hibernation is working on button.

Hi, it's interesting, I have exactly the same problem as you. You can also see my topic. Fast Startup suddenly broken. Hibernation doesn't work via the timer. Hibernation works without any problems via the button on the case or manually in Windows. Everything was OK until November 20th, and then it happened like this. It happened to you in December, and it happened to me in November, the same day. I checked, and there were no software or driver or Windows updates that day. Oh my God, what is Microsoft doing wrong? I think this is really a bug in Windows, and you and I have a headache about this. We did a lot of research. So far, this problem has not been fixed with new updates. Maybe it will be fixed with the 25H2 update or not.

Please let me know if you can solve this problem without reinstalling Windows. Thank you.

Hi! The problem solved itself as it appeared. I don't know how to comment on this. Just after a week or so it started working again and still working without any issues. Literally I have nothing to add here, cause I tried everything and it didn't work. Not sure I had any updates installed before it started working again. It just started. Same magical way as it stopped. I would suggest you to perform a Windows repair or something if it worked... but in my case none of this worked. It just fixed itself.
