Solved How can I shutdown a newly installed Windows 11 without a Microsoft Account ?

I bought a used Windows 10 laptop with an enclosure that has an exterior coloured in rose gold. The installation is encrypted with BitLocker. I was not given a BitLocker key. This unit is an HP 15dy0702ds.

I removed the SSD and installed a bigger SSD and installed Windows 11. I know a child that likes rose gold. I want to send this computer from Canada to Florida, U.S.A.. On a clean installation of Windows 11 is the Microsoft Account sign in screen as shown. As far as I know it is unavoidable. I prefer to let the child in Florida sign in. My problem is that there does not seem to be a way to shutdown Windows 11 at this point. When the unit is sent via courier, I would prefer Windows 11 be completely shutdown.

When I press the power button, the screen goes black and the power light is blinking. The user guide says the blinking power light indicates the sleep state (a power-saving state).

As in the title ... How can I shutdown a newly installed Windows 11 without a Microsoft Account ?

I believe powering the unit off while in UEFI setup would cause a shutdown. Strangely, I cannot get a prompt to access the UEFI setup. My usual means of entering UEFI setup is to power on while repeatedly hitting the ESC key. It does not go to UEFI setup and instead it shows the same Windows screen for the Microsoft Account sign in. The HP user guide says power on and hit F10 is the way to get into UEFI setup but that does not work either.

This unit does not have an easily removable battery.

If you really want to shut it down from the oobe instead of just doing a sysprep,

SHIFT+F10 to open Command Prompt

You can shutdown completely by running the command
shutdown.exe /s /t 0 /f

Try the Esc key instead.

If it takes you to the "Boot Menu" you should see "Setup" listed. Choosing "Setup" will take you to the BIOS.

If you would like to set up this PC to have an OOBE (Out-of-box Experience) so another user/owner can pick up at this step to finish setting up Windows on the PC with their own account and preferences the next time the PC it turned on, then:

1. Press the Shift + F10 keys when you see the screenshot below to open a command prompt.
2. Type C:\Windows\System32\shutdown -s -t 0 -f into the command prompt, and press Enter to shut down Windows.

I see. It is apparent that 228,000 employees and 293 billion USD in revenue is not enough productive capacity to provide an out-of-box experience in the Windows 11 installation GUI so we have to rely upon the user community for information and use Shift F10 and shutdown.exe. Next time, bypass the MS account


Method 1: Use the OOBE\BYPASSNRO Command (Windows 11 & 10)

1. When you reach the "Let's connect you to a network" screen, press Shift + F10 (on some laptops, you may need to press Fn + Shift + F10) to open the Command Prompt.
2. In the command prompt, type the following command exactly and press Enter:
   OOBE\BYPASSNRO

Because it's Microsoft's product, MS will always own the product. You haven't bought the product. All your payment entitles you to is a license to use the product under Microsoft's EULA terms and conditions.

The EULA gives them the right to piddle off users, true. So very smart of them.

How can it be so troublesome? Just set the internet disconnect. After installing, then reconnect.
