Every time I start up I get a load of Microsoft edge webview2 processes.
I am wondering if there is a way to harmlessly stop these since I don't use any web searching on my windows search.
I ran a test of perf mon and some of these sometimes spike a tiny bit which effect gaming cpu cycles.

No but I think there might be more to it than just edge. I read somewhere about a render engine in search or something.

Don’t uninstall WebView2: It’s a core runtime. Removing it can break apps that depend on it.
Just as with the Edge browser, WebView2 has a multi-process architecture. There are separate processes for rendering, GPU and background updates.

Multiple applications embed WebView2 into their interface, especially those in the 365 suite as well some 3rd party apps. A single app can open multiple instances of WebView2

You can enable the command line column in Task Manager to see which app launched each WebView2 process. (right click on column and put a check by command line.) You can prevent any unnecessary startup apps.

i asked because it depends on components of webview. if not, just uninstall webview2 runtime.

or block (can just block it with Defender) /delete

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\<version>\msedgewebview2.exe

Hi,

Open Edge and in Settings/ System i think there is an option that keeps Edge running in the background - disable it. Also open Task manager/Start-up apps and disable it from there too.

Good luck,
werty
