I want to boot from a usb hdd in order to wipe the windows partition of my internal ssd because of privacy reasons since I have send my laptop in for warranty repair because of a heatcrash problem.
I have tried to boot from a thumb drive but the boot time is very long. Before the boot is completed, the laptop crashes because of overheating. When it boots quicker, the problem of heatcrash is mostly over because the fan goes to max speed by then. I wanted to try if booting is quicker from my usb hdd. I have room for a new partition but want to keep my existing partition.
When I try to write the boot image, I can only select the entire disk. I tried to write it to a vhdx file twice but the file was nowhere to be found once rufus was done.
Does anyone have an idea how to proceed?
Rufus 4.2_x86 stand alone
