How do you configure your drive(s)?

My System 1 is setup like this:








My W11 VM's are set up thus, including pass through drives from the host.





All important files are saved to One Drive and backed up to other cloud storage.

It's great that you have a long term upgrade plan. A lot can change during that time, but having a good backup will give you peace of mind. Assuming that both your data are both on the C: drive you should try to do a periodic backup of the entire partition, and regular updates of your Data.
It is very rare but if something should go seriously wrong with your OS you could restore the partition and then apply the most current Data updates to it. This is one of the reasons to separate the Data from the OS. A separate OS partition also means smaller size backup.

Thanks, but if something goes wrong with the OS, I'd rather not try and repair it, I re-install instead. Same with user apps. Hence, I backup files/folders only (multiple backups). That's how I keep my peace of mind. I am not a tech, BTW, I don't mind that my way is more time-consuming (part of the rationale is BitLocker which imposes some constraints to what I am doing, long story)

Putting data on a separate drive has received 50% of the votes, and putting everything in C:\ only 15.9% of the votes, hence I decided to examine my configuration options for the future W11 machine. I will leave my W10 machine (with everything in C:\ ) alone > until I can decide how to configure the future W11 machine > only then may I change the configuration of the W10 machine to ease transition
