Gregory, just out of curiosity, are you really using single-layer DVDs to install Windows? If I may, I'd like to suggest obtaining a $5 16GB flash drive. You can use it over and over and it is WAY more flexible allowing you to do things you simply cannot do with optical media without creating an entirely new disc each time.

Well, you can disable code execution in Office documents also. 365 has disabled macros in Office documents from the internet for a few years, and you were always able to disable it yourself. If you're going to disable code execution in one product only, then comparisons are unfair.

Anyway.... the LTSC ISOs are a lot smaller. The original Greek LTSC ISO is 4.69 GB. If you export a single image, you end up with 4.62 GB.

Doh! So close. I think a single layer DVD is 4.7 GB so it may just squeeze in :-)

The largest file in the Windows distribution, located in the \sources folder, is named either install.wim or install.esd. The ESD version has a higher compression making the file smaller. However, an install.esd is not servicable, meaning that you cannot manipuate the contents on an install.esd as you could an install.wim. However, when space savings is important, using an install.esd can help.

A quick search on the web will yield many articles showing how to convert this file.

Can i convert one install.wid into -> install.esd?
And if i can it will work normally like the orifinal install.wid at the original bootable iso file?

Why would you want to do that if you want to install the image !!!! - usually the requirement is to EXPAND the esd to wim - plenty of posts on the Forum to show you how to do that - and then simply install the image via dism.exe /Apply-Image.

Jimbo, the idea was to keep the image size small enough to fit on a single layer DVD (4.7GB).

Yes, an install.wim can be converted into an install.esd and you can boot from that media and install Windows as normal. You can also perform an upgrade installation as normal.

How i can convert the install.wid -> install.esd?
And after i do the convert must i do something else or simply replace the old wid file with the esd at iso file and all ok?
