How to check if your Secure Boot certs are updated. (three methods)


Like the guy above, my next project is getting the SVN back to version 7. I've got all greens in the current DB. I just added the option ROM. This system was never going to have 2023 as the default in the UEFI.

With some great help from @hader @garlin @starchase and @Ghot I was able to get my Lenovo T490 updated this past week (see above screen shot) so I decided to follow the same steps and update my Lenovo M83 desktop after doing a full Macrium backup earlier this morning. Boy, did I ever run into a brick wall with this one. HELP!!!!!!

I'm assuming you were making the changes using Mosby, did it look something like this? Note the second to last entry. Mosby BIOS.webp

No one posted to me anything about Mosby when I was updating my laptop and since it successfully updated without Mosby and know nothing about it, I followed the same steps this morning on the desktop without Mosby hoping those steps would work the same as they did on the laptop.

Your laptop was likely supported as the processor was approved by MS for W11, it would mean Lenovo had provided MS with an updated 2023 KEK. Your desktop on the other hand is circa 2013/2014 according to a Google search.

The M83 desktop is circa 2014. If you look at the details in My Computers, System 2, you'll see the work around I used to get Windows 11 installed. Unsupported hardware for sure - CPU and TPM 1.2.

cjee21's script (2nd one) has a bug, it doesn't handle exceptions when UEFI variables are undefined.

Given the age of this system, your options are:
- Try running Mosby, which doesn't care if Lenovo doesn't support this PC any more.
- Leave Secure Boot off. Windows will detect it can't update this PC. It might constantly nag you in the future about it, but Windows won't brick the machine either.

Holy crap! That readme is a monster! Plus RUFUS, disable secure boot in the UEFI, create a bootable USB drive, etc, etc, etc.... :dizzy:

    Unsupported hardware, upgraded from Windows 10 Pro (TPM 1.2 & unsupported CPU, but does have SSE4.2, and POPCNT) to Windows 11 Pro version 24H2 on 06/15/2025. Added Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup – AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU=1 to allow installation using the Windows 11 ISO file. Used the enablement package to upgrade to version 25H2 on 10/08/2025. Secure boot enabled. Secure Boot CA 2023 updated.
There's a shorter method, but it depends on if your UEFI has a setup menu where you can enroll individual keys (from an USB drive). You can check, older versions of BIOS may not have this feature.

This the big problem with "unsupported" PC's, there is no universal answer to:
- Does your UEFI support manual key enrollment?​
- How do I get to the right screen (if one exists)?​

Im using a legacy-bios from ASUS , secure boot disabled ( works only on EUFI-bios ) , should I worry about updating..........?!
Do I have to go from legacy to EUFI ( if possible !)........?

Apparently the UEFI has a Secure Boot Setup mode but without any documentation, I'm scared to death to click on "Reset To Setup Mode" since I have no idea what will happen if I do. I don't want to risk bricking the machine.

Well at least I have it reading the UEFI DBX now...

Figured I just edit this post. Got it all fixed. It was figuring out exactly which DBX binary it needed. So for me the order for the DBX entries in the BIOS is, set the default key, append the SVN key, then append the DBXUpdate.bin from the MS github repository. Last step is to go back into the BIOS and see if I can save it to a thumb drive without it giving me an error again. Fingers crossed....Holy crap.webp
