How to disable fullscreen on double-click?

I found a post on this forum where the poster claimed that it is impossible to disable this horrible behavior, even with a registry mod? Is that really true?

Increasing the mouse speed is not really a solution. It stops the constant unwanted expansion of windows to fullscreen, but it also makes it doubly difficult to open a folder with double click. I don't want to eliminate double-click functionality entirely. I just want to get rid of this one, maddening behavior.

Can it be done?

Change mouse clicks to Single...

I removed my post, I had it backwards. My apologies. My brain has been suffering this week. Not a good week in the life of pants.

Try increasing the time between clicks one bar at a time. You may find at some point during the experiment, that there is a comfortable compromise.

That's a creative suggestion, thanks. Alas, I don't think it will work for me. One reason I have so much trouble with the rigid (apparently non-configurable) double-click behavior in Windows is that I write a lot and typically have a half dozen or more instances of Word running at any one time. Even with a double monitor, I constantly need to drag windows around, and that's when the double-click behavior bites me in the derrier, because Windows misconstrues an attempt to drag the window for an attempt to expand it to full screen. If I switch the fullscreen function to single-click, that problem won't go away. On the contrary, it will probably get much worse.

That's what I'm trying next. But the slider in Control Panel that configures the speed of the double click is WAY too low resolution, so I found an article that explained how to change the double-click speed in the registry and the range is 0 - 900, so if you want to fine tune the speed of the double-click, you have to edit that value directly.

If you really must do this via the registry, maybe try down from the default “480” Higher -> 420, 400, 380, 360 <- Lower

Id guess these bars represent an increment of 80? So increments of 20 or 40 via the registry might be your sweet spot I suppose?
