Did you try searching Windows for Device security???

I assume they're talking about defender.
Not exactly sure that’s a fix though. Due to the new settings you may have to have a good look around.

There is an option in there for "Smart App Control" but I am not sure if that's a solution either.

Mine is greyed out because according to the documentation:

Smart App Control is only available on clean installs of Windows 11. Also, there are other reasons why Smart App Control could be turned off.

  • During evaluation mode we determined that you weren't a good candidate for Smart App Control.
  • It was turned off manually by you or another user signed into your machine.
  • Your device is running Windows in S mode. You'll need to turn S mode off, then reset your PC, to enter evaluation mode.
  • You have optional diagnostic data in Windows turned off. If you want to turn Smart App Control on, you'll need to reset this PC, or reinstall Windows, and select Send optional diagnostic data during the setup process.

I have a windows 10 desktop PC (I admit it's quite an old gaming PC) that has failed the windows 11 automatic upgrade. I will try to backup my PC, probably get a bigger SSd and attempt this at some point in December or early next year.

Did you try installing the program as Administrator in Compatibility Mode?

First try "Run compatibility troubleshooter"
See if it comes up with anything. If not:

Right click on the .exe file
Click "Properties"
Click "Compatibility"
Select "Run this program in compatibility mode" (Select Win 10 if you can, if not try Win 8)
Select "Run this program as an administrator"
Click "Apply"
Try installing again.

In 23H2 . Have to check this in 24H2 , during upgrade , looks like its switched on ( to 24H2 )
Coz it does not finish the upgrade , untill I have uninstalled Shadow Defender.
When I have uninstalled , the upgrade finishes , however ; not possible to install SD again !
Getting warning " not compatible with 24H2 " , wonder what happens if switching off Smart App Control ......!! Did not checked if it was on , after the upgrade, next try will switch it off immediately , after fresh reboot. :wink:

Again did not so , its about time Im getting smarter.
Will try this also after switching off the Smart App Control .............!! :-)

No I actually didn’t. Apparently there are different requirements. Could be my PC could be that I have upgraded.

Also, I disable everything, I even snuck into Bill gates home and disabled his alarm system… everything disabled. In fact I can’t get into Windows since I disabled it. I’m also a little disabled in my head..

Core Isolation is needed if you run virtual machines. If you don't you can disable it because it affects performance. In Windows 10 it is off by default and remains off upon upgrading to 11. If you clean install Windows 11 it is on by default and many reported the computer is slower.

Installeer een oudere versie W11 bv. 23H3 en hierin Shadow Defender. Maak een opstartbare usb stick aan voor Windows 11 24H2 vanaf bv. Spotweb met Rufus. Boot niet op vanaf de stick maar draai onder Windows 11 setup.exe vanaf de stick om te upgraden. Shadow Defender blijft dan behouden. Werkt bij mij!

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Dutch is like German with the umlauts replaced by double vowels, at least in writing. I'm sure pronunciation differs a lot. Much like Portuguese which are close to Spanish but also different in writing and pronunciation. Pronunciation of Greek sounds a little like Spanish (if you don't pay attention to the words), well more like Latin American, we don't use the sound "th" as in "thin" as frequently as Spanish do, we would sound like drunk and slurring. In UK where I was studying many asked us if we were Spanish. Also I didn't like the British accent and I talked more like American and asked me if I was one. I also prefer the American spelling because that was what I first saw when learning English. I prefer "color" to "colour" which looks archaic and bizarre. In Greek the R is not silent like in British English but not too exaggerated like in Scottish English (it would be written RR, double R). It is somewhere at the middle.
