How to Geek (howtogeek.com)

Did the whole OpenDNS thing (for "Computer Workstations and Laptops"). Scarey. I've never had this problem before (20 years?).
Was able to do everything except
note: the link "flush both your DNS resolver cache and your web browser's cache" returns which doesn't restore much confidence in OpenDNS.

I'm sure I have. Before putting in solar, our electric company PG&E regularly knocks everyone off the power grid about once a week.
But just to make sure, I'll unplug it again tonight for 15 minutes.

Just noticed that I've been sent an email by OpenDNS. So I 'confirmed' and am going through a new process now.

1) Successfully added and 'friendly' named a (dynamic) network.
2) Tried to OpenDNS Updater for Windows. Failed:

and that's as far as I've gotten.

Other things I know nothing about: Cisco Umbrella, OpenDNS Community - Idea Bank, Domain Tagging, Forums, Blog, Community, Dashboard, OpenDNS Enterprise Security, HOME, STATS, SETTINGS, MY ACCOUNT, SUPPORT, TELL A FRIEND, Knowledge Base, CacheCheck, System Status...

ISP might play a part. From their website

I'M SO SORRY!! (With my wife's,) I have 4 computers running Windows at this time and absolutely can't get into Linux at this time!
I'm multi-taxed to the max!!!

No. Only one has Outlook365installed.

If the others can reach the site then it is not your ISP.

I have 365 installed and can reach the site.

I would create a new user account and try to reach the site.
Do not open outlook on the new user account, go directly with a browser.

I subscribe to How to Geek. I'm using the current Firefox.

I just checked and I can reach all the links in the emails.

The reason I use Outlook, is because I USE Outlook. I depend on Outlook and its integration of email, calendar, and contacts.
I can do everything using sub-standard programs and a notebook to keep track of what I am doing, but I'm using a computer which has worked for me for years and I'm not about to switch to something that may be able to do one task decently (remove emails from a list or replace them in unique folders, all in an inadequate interface). Oh, and by the way I insist on POP3 for my email, FOR GOOD REASON. The first MSupport person screwed with my email by immediately switching it to IMAP!!! It took an hour for me to undo that.

I'm very happy for you. I have subscribed to How To Geek for years with no problem. But now it is an enormous problem.

OK, I did this. I logged into my email account on gmail.com. (Obviously, if I created a new account, I would have to go through the whole process of bringing up howtogeek.com (which I apparently can't do) in order to establish a new subscription with How To Geek and that would involve coming up with a new persona, etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,etc., etc.,
So, using the browser version of gmail, namely gmail.com, I navigated to one of the dozens of messages from How to Geek, brought up the message (which I CAN do) and clicked on one of the links there--thus assuring that the process wasn't going through Outlook365. (Note that 4 or 5 days ago Microsoft deleted my Office365 apps and reinstalled them...)

NOW WHAT!

I am talking about an entirely new user account. Create a local account.

Ok Ok
1) I used another email account.

2) sent the email https://www.howtogeek.com/smart-home-upgrades-make-your-home-smarter/?utm_campaign=HTG-202309051700&utm_source=HTG-NL-DN&utm_medium=newsletter to the new account...

3) Clicked on a link in the howtogeek.com/ email

4) Result

The NEW Windows user account is what I want you to do.
After you log into the new account click on the link you just posted. Do not do ANYTHING with ANY email.

I have visited HowToGeek for years without incident, with an ad blocker , I never really used much of what they published. But just recently, I guess when they redid their site I started getting the "Disable your ad blocker to view this site" BS.

I'm sorry ....... your site was never really that good anyway , am I supposed to open myself up for you to cram forced ads down my throat ? I think not.
Any site that wants you to disable your ad blocker to view their content is probably not worth looking at in the first place. I know they do it to generate $$$$ , but their are other ways to earn money.

I don't understand.
I used another email account.
The only way I can click on a link is by that link existing in the email address in question.
I can click on the link I posted by just going to my posting, which I just did, and got:

might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

What does using a new email address without any email and going to a forum at How to Geek (howtogeek.com) and clicking on a link have to do with the problem?

This seems like a TLS handshake issue, have you checked your HTTPS settings in the registry? You mentioned that it works on other machines so I would compare the problematic settings to some known good settings.
