Any advice with this, please? I have downloaded the driver files etc and asked for them to be installed but I find no sign of anything on my computer.

According to HP support thread your scanner is not supported in Win 11. You may need to utilise 3d party software. Does it show up in Device Manager at all and if yes through which driver?

Hi Win7ine, thank you very much for your reply. You have helped me immensely. I followed your suggestion and did find the scanner in Device Manager (under Devices and Printers) - there was no indication of it anywhere else. And then when I clicked on the image it opened a page with a few settings (far fewer than in Windows 10) but, crucially, also with a "Scan" button. And, eureka, when I clicked on this the scanner started working. I had to hunt around to find where it had saved the scan, but from there I could drag it into the main screen and then save it with my pictures. I could also drag the icon of the scanner from the Devices page onto the home page so I'll be able to access it from there in future. Although the scanner is therefore operating in a way now that will make proper computer people's har stand on end, I can make scans. Thank you very much for your help.

@ecollen glad you are up and running. You may want to try the free Microsoft Scan APP available in the MS Store.

It is very minimal but works well for simple scanning tasks. Just search for "SCAN" in the store and it will pop up for installation.

Hi Win7ine, OK great, thanks. I'll have a look at it. I'm just wondering how this will work in relation to the set-up I now have. Is the idea that I will be able to scan with the HP Scanjet G4050 either by clicking on the Scan button that I see when I open the scanner icon on my homepage (as I can do now) or by clicking on some button that will presumably be available once I have downloaded the Microsoft App? Apologies for the elementary questions: I am like the guy who uses a car to get from one place to another; if it doesn't start I call the Roadside Assistance people to check if it's got petrol and a battery and wheels and whatever else it needs to work!

Hi Fabier2, many thanks for your reply. If you don't mind would you please have a look at my previous reply to Win7ine. I would like to try out this HP Smart app, but just to be sure I would like to ask exactly the same question with regard to this app. Many thanks.

It's for wifi only and you can log in or create an account or not. Still works. Just have a play with the app. It's easily uninstallable if you don't like it.

@ecollen once installed you will find the app under the Windows Start Button (on the taskbar) and you can then pin it (with mouse right click) to either taskbar or/and to start menu for a quick access.

Hi Win7ine, thank you very much. I'll try that as soon as I catch my breath. (In the meantime, I'm struggling - if I can use so polite a word - with this dratted Windows 11 because I can't get my PayPal payments to work; but that's a different story). Thanks for your help.
