Solved How To Make Windows 11 Taskbar Uncombined and Unlocked

A little off topic, but those white icons you're using in the taskbar are sweet. Any way you could point me to where I could find them?
The name of the set is TOKENS, I downloaded from Deviant Art website:

the only issue i have now is the huge taskbar! i need to find a custom theme or a moded one. 😛

anyone knows which to tweak to bring back the classic right-click menu in the desktop?
That huge Taskbar can be changed in regedit, go to this:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Find or create a DWORD TaskbarSmallIcons, set the value to 1

Still got no luck to bring back the old right-click, sometimes that click just don't work on my PC and I have to press a button on my keyboard.

Ohh. Nope not possible as of yet, I don’t think. I’m still looking for a way to get the ‘more options’ to be a flyout instead of having to click it.

i saw moded os with the classic menu

So ironic that I noticed this thread at about the exact time I thought, "Feck it! I'm gonna port explorer.exe from W10 over to W11"!
Works a treat, so far! Couple glitches. (y)

Edwin,

Have I understood correctly that it was just the explorer.exe substitution that enabled you to use Taskbar Toolbars again?

If so then that's marvellous news. Taskbar Toolbars have been my primary menu system for a decade and their demise would be a disaster for me.

All the best,
Denis

I installed StartIsBack++ version 2.9.15, the original Start Menu covered by the StartIsBack and moved to the left

Did you happen to backup the Registry before & after StartIsBack installation?

Is there perhaps a call to C:\Windows\explorer.exe that has been replaced by a call to C:\Program files\StartIsBack\whatever\whatever.exe?

If that's how it's done then perhaps a similar replacement might be a method of achieving the C:\Windows\explorer.exe substitution you described in your opening post in this thread. A simple Registry change [.reg file or a reg command in a batch file] might well be a more easily maintained method of creating the reference to the Windows 10 explorer.exe [instead of having to use the boot command prompt to actually swap the explorer.exe files over].

Just an idea.

Denis.

I never have a backup for my registry. But your idea is right. We can directly "re-reoute" original Windows 11 explorer.exe to another shell.
In this case, I'm using Windows 10 explorer.exe.
But DON'T EVER replace the shell with StartIsBack.
I installed StartIsback AFTER replaced the explorer.exe, just to disable the Windows 11 Start Menu.

Open regedit, go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Find a REG_SZ Shell, set the value to any other explorer.exe

Note: I never tried this method.

That's handy. I have not used a non-standard shell since Win3.1 [for which it was a simple AutoExce.bat change].

In Windows 10, that Key allows Administrators Full control so if it's the same in Windows 11 achieving the change & re-imposing it after updates would be simple.

Thanks for starting this thread and posting your method.

All the best,
Denis
