Hi all,

I bought a second hand laptop with Windows 11 and the password was set to blank. Now the expiry notice is popping up and I can't change the password because the "Current password" won't allow a blank entry.

What can I do? Thanking you in advance.

It is not your password that is expiring, it is your version of Windows 11
Go to Settings/System/About Under Windows Specifications it should show your version of 11.
You should have at least 23H2. If not, upgrade your system Download Windows 11

Please post a screenshot of that notice.

The vendor should have set up the machine with an up to date Windows 11 and Sysprep'd to start at OOBE. If it doesn't come like that, it's best to start with a fresh Windows install or, at the very least (and this is if you trust the vendor), update from the latest ISO (and possibly create a new local user account).

Hi all. Especially as I had provided very sketchy detail on the problem (ie. no message quotes or screenshot). I appreciate the telepathy. I had a delayed reply as I'm in Australia and everyone replied overnight(for me).

Splunk, yep, my version is 23H2. So all good there.

Freebooter, that solved my immediate problem, Thanks heaps!

Everyone else, I've decided to change my password from blank to something very secure. I wasn't going to at first, but as you've all mentioned the option on disabling/non-expiring passwords. I thought securing it was better given what of my life is stored on the laptop.
