How to set 'Send to>Mail recipient' to gmail

When I am in Windows Explorer, right click on a file, select [Send to] then [Mail recipient], I would like the file be attached to a Gmail email instead of an Outlook email.

Is this possible and if so, how?

I've had better luck doing that when having an installed E-Mail Client such as Microsoft Outlook [part of Office] or Thunderbird, doesn't seem to work with Online/Webmail such as Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook.com. It does work with Online/Webmail to use the add an attachment from within that page.

I have abandoned the approach described above.*

The strategy I will use is add the target Gmail account (IMAP/SMTP) to my desktop Outlook program using Account Settings.

* If anyone has an alternate solution, you may still want to provide it here for future readers.

As far as I know you can't open a web page email account as an email client (program) using the send to option.

I use Thunderbird with all my Gmail (and other) email accounts. When I click on Send to mail recipient, it opens an blank compose email window for Thunderbird, using the default email account as set in TBird, as the sender. All the other accounts are in a pull down list so the sending account can be changed to any one of the other accounts

I’ll assume you didn’t even read my first response. But for anyone that actually wants a solution, use that. Or to launch a web client as the email client, you (in theory) should be able to write an ahi script to launch said web interface and compile the aforementioned ahk as an exe and set that as your default mail client in windows settings.

A few years later, but I just released (Open Source) Go-MAPI which does exactly that for Gmail,
