Solved How to show Quick Access AND This PC at the same time?

All this space in File Explorer's home directory. Is it not possible to show both "Devices and drives" AND "Quick Access" at the same time?

Hi, welcome to the forum

If you’d rather have File Explorer open to This PC so that you see Folders & Drives.
On the ribbon, select See more (three dots) … > Options > Open File Explorer to:. Then select This PC > Apply.

See if that changes your view the way you want it.

When opening to This PC instead of Home, if you can’t see the folders you want to see at the top of This PC, follow this tutorial:

You need to make some what of an effort when members reply to your threads with suggestions.

This tutorial adds 3D Object, I'd like to be able to add the User folder instead.

If you were to actually read the tutorial, you will see there is a reg file to add each folder, and there are reg files to remove folders you don’t want to have showing.

Read the entire tutorial. I know you obviously didn’t.

The tutorial is called “Add or Remove FOLDERS” for a reason. It isn’t called Add or remove 3D objects.

I know that I am sounding harsh but it’s frustrating when new members don’t read what is presented to them. We aren’t paid to help you, we do so because we care.

@Valour549 I’ll make it easy for you.

Go to Option One Step 2

Download the reg file for “Add All Folders to This PC”

Then go to Option Two Step 3 and download the reg file for “Remove 3D Objects folder from This PC”

Then you will have ALL user folders except for the 3D Objects

If there are other folders you still don’t want, scroll down again to Option Two and find the remove folder reg file for the folder that you don’t want.

Close and reopen File Explorer or sign out of Windows then back in again.

As mentioned in the other thread you created, you will need to have File Explorer open to “This PC” and not “Home” as I have instructed you.

EDIT:

To run the reg file, double click on it to run and agree to all windows that pop up. This is safe.

if you're talking about the root User profile folder, then yes it is possible. you can do it via registry mod or winaero tweaker. if you're not good with registry, use the tweaker as it is a gui.

Hello, and welcome.

Only drives can be added under the "This PC" group in the navigation pane.

However, you can add the user folder as a separate group in the navigation pane like in the tutorial below.

@antspants Yeah I think there was some misunderstanding going on, I did ofc read the tutorial, but didn't want the 3D Objects and instead want my User folder.

@dacrone Thanks for the tip to use WinaeroTweaker. Using a combination of that and registry tweaks below, not only did I manage to add the folders, I even got them in the exact order I wanted (see how it's not alphabetical). Perfect now!

Which is exactly what the tutorial teaches you to do.

You could of added those folders without using Winaero, as in the tutorial.

But Winaero is good for adding custom folders, like in my File Explorer setup:

Well the thing is I didn't want to have a list of all those icons under This PC in the left-hand plane; I want only my drives there.

That's a custom registry fix I have implemented, it wouldn't happen with the reg files in the tutorial.

While the tutorial shows how to remove 3D Objects, it certainly doesn't show how to add the User folder.

So is it possible to add something like "Apps" to this PC, without it showing up on the left-hand plane? If so do let me know how.

you have to find and annotate all of the CLSIDs that you want to display. again, winaero is a gui so its just quicker

Any custom folder you add to the top of File Explorer using Winaero, (if that's what you mean, in the image below) will show in the left pane as per my image above. I've not found a way to prevent it.

But I want it like that so I am happy.

2 ways:

1) use his older app "This PC Tweaker" and uncheck nav pane box

2) Registry mod:
Computer\HKEY_USERS\your_user_sid\Software\Classes\CLSID\whatever_folder
DWORD "System.IsPinnedtoNameSpaceTree" from 1 to 0

*also, if you uncheck "Show inside the "Folders" category", it will list it with the drives instead (without having to use the subst command to map it as a drive)
