I have Unpinned a couple and Pinned some, but I cannot Unpin the Desktop item. Oddly, it is a OneDrive icon (the others I removed were OneDrive ones too). How can I Unpin it, or is this a bug?

Some of the items listed there are also OneDrive items. That is, at least, misleading. How can I change This PC tp show my own local folders, not the OneDrive ones?

Hmm, with the latest windows Updates, things have changed :-)

The system is now on 22H2, build 22621.963. Quick Access seems to be renamed to "Home" and "One Drive - Personal" has been renamed too. (Sadly, these changes, which probably apply to everyone) are not mentioned in the "What's new" available in Windows Update History)

"This PC" now shows only the disks (including USB sticks / drives) connected. There are no folders listed, so those problematic OneDrive folders are no longer listed.

Great news.

If wanted, you can add any folders you do want back to showing on the This PC window using the tutorial below.

Maybe this program will help you. Works great for me. Love I can open file explorer right to my downloads folder.

And these link to OneDrive. I moved the screenshot folder to C users as I do not need it taking up OneDrive space. The Documents, Pictures, Music and Video folders in C: users do not sync with OneDrive (except for the one labelled OneDrive) You can add your own folders under C: users for items you do not want saved to OneDrive or in the OneDrive trash.

Just wondering ... if I can add folders to "the folder formerly known as" Quick Access, why would I need them in "This PC"? Or add them to the new Favourites section?

PS With the older build (22000.something) , for the OneDrive items in This PC, I tried to Restore the default Location. The path changed to, for example, C:/users/5char_name/Pictures but when I clicked [OK} and opted to create the folder, I then got an error message (sorry, I can't recall the exact wording) and had to cancel the operation.

Agreed. Pin to Quick access folders you want available in the navigation pane usually is all one needs for them. Choice is always good though.

Hi,
Just update to the latest mainstream build all the duplicate entries under "This pc" like pic/ vid/ music/ doc's/ desktop/.. disappear and are only under Home/ quick access unless you want to dig down for them under this pc

So yes ms makes this pc a dig fest to get to user folders.
Now I just still remove Home/ quick access and unpin them all and make a shortcut to user folder and since I can't drag that shortcut to taskbar I have to have it on my desktop, another ms wisdom at work they killed drag and drop from desktop to taskbar lol :boom:

Yes. Pin your C:users folders to Quick Access so no need to scroll down to This PC.

Hi,
Opposite of what I said and what I'm doing
Quick access is called Home now and MS still calls it quick access in many menus because ms has sloppy coders and incomplete changes so I will not mess with that crap.

User folder is on the start menu "Can be added" there is little to no reason to use Home or older named quick access.

Just a shortcut to user folder and using this to expand navigation pane works well for doing all the digging for me :p

Code:
rem Expand left side tree of current folder on Explorer open
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v NavPaneExpandToCurrentFolder /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Another option is changing the taskbar again but I wasn't crazy about it but maybe it will fix the drag and drop issue
Code:
rem Setup taskbar
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v TaskbarGlomming /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v TaskbarGlomLevel /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v TaskbarSmallIcons /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v ShowTaskViewButton /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Results so far that expand automatically to user folder

And yes I got rid of the explorer stupid new ribbon to lol

"Quick access" is now a section in "Home" which is why the context menus still show "Pin to Quick access" and "Unpin from Quick access".
