No problem and just remember to not let Winders manage your default printers in settings. That can mess things up.

According to one of the comments, the OS sees some older printers as something else and tries to install its own driver. Disable that first before re-installing the printer driver.

Still no luck
Not been on the computer since before Christmas. At that time it was printing with HP Smart from my phone.
So I thought devote my time at moment to getting it work from the PC
Made the HP 2820e the Default but no luck
Changed it to HP Smart
But now HP Smart shows the printer, but just says offline, and wont work on the tablet, or PC now
Gone through HP Smart troubleshooting on tablet and PC
Just freezes halfway.

Ran the HP Print & Scan, the Troubleshooteer Says Driver Unavailable. Then froze.
Says Driver unavaiable. (Have installed Driver from HP website)
So unable to printe now from anywhere!
It shows everywhere but just says offline.

I tried to add it to HP Support Assistant where my pc is. I find that useful for help
But it will not recognise my priter, only to say the SN I add has been added to another account.
I do not have another account!

Was the printer turned on before or after the computer was turned on? It makes a difference.

I have found that if I turn the HP printer on after the computer is already on then it is not unusual for the HP printer to say off-line. I used to have to then reboot the computer for it to say the printer is on-line. I found another solution. Now if I find that the printer off-line I do the following:
  1. Close the application I want to print with
  2. Run the HP Printer Assistant and wait for it to load
  3. Reopen the application I want to print with
  4. The printer now shows it is on-line
That is the advantage of NOT using HP Smart. Everything is local so there is nothing to log into.
BTW, I have HP Smart is on my phone but I never found any reason to ever use it.

Printer always turned on first. But no change either way. Plugged printer and pc out then in again. No change.

You don't need to log in to HP Smart. I really don't know what's going on here.

Log out of HP Smart then select Printer settings -advanced settings. Does it show the printer's web page?

Very frustrated and not feeling brilliant at the minute. Had thought a new printer would be so easy to set up. It's just as bad as my old one.
Had left it a few days as HP Smart had worked on my tablet then at least
But not now.
Not bothered whatt apps I use now just want it to print.
Switched pc off and on and the printer too no change.

Really cannot understand why HP Support Assistant won't let me add it. As my pc is there.
It just says its been added to another account
Which I do not have!!

No it's not there
I am very grateful for all the help on this board but I seem to be going round in circles. As trying everything has left me more confused
Especially as not feeling 100% and just want it to work.
As it won't even work from my phone now as did so straightaway when I first plugged it in.
Maybe I will have to uninstall it and start again?

Though when I sign into HP Smart online..
It shows the Printer there and says Ready to Print but offline.
So don't want to do anything drastic to make it worse.

That's what I'm thinking.

My cannon was acting up after I installed it and when I contacted support he asked me if I installed everything on both the ethernet and wifi sides and I said I didn't install the wifi side b/c at the time I had nothing that needed wifi and he said that's what the problem was, the printer needs the whole install. When you send the cmd to print it's waiting to see from what direction and when it sees from what direction the other side hands off in an orderly fashion, when the wifi side didn't respond the ethernet side had problems,

He had me uninstall the program then walked me through the steps for a reinstall only this time with wifi and the printer started working again.

You're frustrated b/c the install isn't going well, take time to clear your work area and your mind, try to stay relaxed, have tea or your favorite beverage handy, go over your steps again an make sure that HP program on your phone is also gone then reinstall it.
Then when your ready slide the install disk into the player.

Not been online as am not well.
Still cant add printer to HP Support.

It says serial number is invalid and it is registered to another account. I do not have another account so what do I do?

Could that be part of the problem?
