I Bought An Old Computer For 10$!!

I can sympathize with that, reading some of the articles that appear on the Widgets shows that 'youth' attitude to be prevalent in business now. I also don't have as much business in the last couple years. I attribute some of the situation to the problems, with any tech, if a product has issues and I fix it to where I would want to use it the client will want to use it but the downside is if I do fix it that good they don't have to call me back.
Hi there
didn't the legendary Henry Ford invent "Planned obsolescence" !!!!

I used to think US cars after you'd used them for more than 6 months would come up with things like aircraft warning signs to pilots with all sorts of lights and alarms indicating " Hey ---you're cheating -- you've got 3 days left to buy another car before this one stops working".

cheers
jimbo

Well! I went garage saling again today... I hit this one sale with a dozen or so boxes with FREE on them. Free is good... I started opening boxes and rummaging through them until, "And this is the OMG moment!" One had a tune of Corsair fans, some with RGB. Yes they will come in handy. But underneath I found these... An Asus EN8800GTS 640MB and an Asus R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 "FOR FREE!!" I Grabbed the box and into the car it went. The wife found some shi.. I mean nice stuff too... I put the R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 in my main system and the EN8800GTS 640MB in my 32 bit system, "Still a work in progress mind you. YA! I'll get to it". I Installed the drivers in both systems and both work fantastic! I used AIDA64 to ID the exact model for both. It was a good day. I'm feeling good.... Here's some pics.

NO... As you know Win 11 is 64 bit exclusive and My System is 32 bit. So it's stay with Win 10 32 bit or go Linux.

I just checked temps on the EN8800GTS 640MB and its idling at 57C. Thinking I'll pull the card and disassemble and apply fresh past. It is old and most likely never disassembled. I shut the system down and will work on it in the morning. I'll post the results. I hope it's in the higher 30's. My R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 is idling at 36C.

Maybe set a fan curve with MSI Afterburner or similar. :-)

I use EVGA Precision (EVGA vid card), and have set fan curves for the fans on my RTX 2070...

I have 1 win11 (combat flight sims), 2 win10 (pc) our home computers, 1 win10 (laptop), 1 linux (Ubuntu) I like it for being able to read documents and help when I am flying so many aircraft, I fly a hundred or more easy, with all my flight sim aircraft, and ground vehicles.. I also still have a very old win98 computer, it can still run SCSI, for an old HP photo, slide, negative scanner. I have been building electronics and computers since 1980. My only issue is the linux connecting to windows networking is a PIA.

Have the same issue with Linux accessing my Buffalo LinkStation NAS [2 x 2TB RAID 1], doesn't seem to be supported. Didn't have that issue with 2 x 1TB WDC NAS drives but they were old and had security issues with no updates, the drives are good and living in computers now as secondary Data drives. The Linux issue is not important as all the computers of clients are Windows and I can access the NAS for data storage, backups, file access, etc., whether wired or wireless.
