Hi,

I have this laptop:

Product Support - SFA16-41 | Acer United Kingdom

I was told that AMD & Windows 11 don't install the right colour profile for it automatically making the laptop screen use default sRGB which is ancient colour tech and because of this it bottlenecks the quality of this screen by a lot.

So I downloaded this DCI P3 .icc profile:

Three component color encoding registry

The International Color Consortium....promoting and encouraging the standardization of an open color management system

How do I install this or apply it correctly? I double clicked on it and don't see no difference on the screen, still looks the same.

What do I do in Windows 11 and AMD settings to apply this profile?

What options do you see in the Color Management (US spelling) control panel? Unless the "Use my settings for this device" box is checked, no profile will be used. I wonder what profiles Acer may have installed by default.

To answer your original question, the profiles are kept in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color Move or copy the file there, and you should be able to use the "Add" button in Color Management. I'm unconvinced that it's anything you need to do, though.

If you're serious about color, there are devices that can be used to profile a PC. They can generate custom profiles.

One caution: some colorimeters don't give accurate results in the red with some OLED displays.

There is also a utility that provides a more detailed measurement: DisplayCAL—Display Calibration and Characterization powered by ArgyllCMS It hasn't been updated in years, but it still runs under Windows 11, and the Argyll software for which it functions as a GUI has been updated.

Yes I'm on a budget and those calibration tools are expensive to me and I don't have the time to calibrate using tools which seems too complex to me. I just want to get the best out of my laptop display by quick tweaks or correct settings.

This is what I get.

I have removed all of the profiles except the one I'm using. (From a profile using an X-Rite i1Display Pro Plus.)

I could be wrong, but for now the vindows desktop will use srgb anyway.

So you saying Windows will force sRGB when using windows and DCI P3 while watching Netflix or gaming HDR?

I've never understood color management in Windows.

My PC is HDR capable. I find that it doesn't use my regular ICC profile in that mode. I need one that is defined as "advanced".

If your laptop permits setting its display gamut to "native" or equivalent, you could try that. That's the widest possible one. (sRGB is supposed to be the standard for Web content.)

Haven't the least idea. It's not intrinsically part of Windows.

It seems you have SDR display, if it's HDR, then it's a little different.
I want to say that it seems now in Windows they change the color management system and the file structure ICC will be changed (MHC2).

It's all too complicated for me.

Of course you can try to use DCI P3 .icc
