My wife yesterday opened her desktop and had no icons. After a short while BSOD. I rebooted and it told me it was fixing 3 strings of script. Then her icons came back.

Last evening I too had the blank desktop with no icons, 3 reboots and nothing. I did have the taskbar, so I went into search and looked for 'fixing/reset icon cache' and found it. All this time my desktop was blank except for image. After a few seconds in DoS, it told me success. So I rebooted and got my full desktop back. Windows Ver: latest including (KB5025305)

done it again. blank desktop BUT, icons did not appear until about 5 minutes after desktop screen. Rebuild did not work either

yes pc is clear. Correction: I thought MWB had finished. Thee were 7 PUP items all to do with a program Restoro which I had tried weeks ago, on advice, and deleted it and supposedly 'removed all traces'

No change 2 days later. Put pc on and had to wait 3-4 minutes for icons to actually appear on screen. Screen background colour is good as is desktop image.

Have you tried DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth followed by sfc /scannow ?
