I'm looking for good USB 3.1 to USB-C extension cables

Hello,

I figure there are some good extension cable experts here. If I have to buy more than one type (for each purpose) then I'd certainly consider that.

I'm looking for a good USB 3.1 male on one end, and a USB-C female on the other end extension cable.

What I want is something that will both charge a phone if need be, but also to transfer data without flipping the USB-C end trying to figure out which one has the faster transfer rate. In other words it should transfer at the highest rate the same on both sides, regardless of which way it's plugged in.

I'm also am looking for an extension cable for USB-C hub (with male connector) to plug into a USB 3.1 (male) on the other end and will need a female slot in-between. Again, regardless of flipping.

Something universal for charging, or data transfers between either phones, hubs and even HDD or SSD drives.

In this day and age, flipping is stupid and it should work either way. Does such a cable (or cables) exist? Any recommendations?

Surely that means you want USB 3.1 male to USB-C male?

I could not decypher this cable requirement.

I have always thought that this was a characteristic of all USB-C connectors.

All I can say is: I have a box full of USB A to C cables we've bought from a variety of sources, mostly Amazon. Some will charge a phone at high rate but slow data transfer or even no data transfer, some with full USB 3.1/3.2 transfer speeds but slow charging.

Only a VERY few with both fast charging and full USB transfer speeds, and those we cherish.

Buying the more expensive ones that seem good... like woven cloth wear jacket... means nothing here. The cheapest ones are just as likely to be fast charge/high speed as the more expensive.

And last: buying this sort of thing from Amazon is spotty for re-orders: sometimes you get the same cable on a re-order, sometimes it's very much a different cable but sold with the same name (one of those meaningless-in-any-language AI generated ones) and description. So good luck on your quest.

Don't use extension cables if you want high bandwidth and fast charge. Get long enough cables exactly the length you need, and with proper ratings, not just with some advertising propaganda attached on the selling site. They all mean nothing.

Usually a thick cable is a good cable, and yes, the better quality, the pricier it gets. I personally use Samsung or Lenovo cables or similar since I know they support fast charging and high transfer rates.

Yup, that's the idea. Only it looks too short. I need something 6-10 inches long.

For the time being, I'm having to deal with a newer USB-C hub that needs to go around the back of the laptop so it will be able to plug into a USB 3.1 laptop port. From the left-side of the laptop to the right-side. Hence, something longer.

Possibly. I'm less concerned with phone charging and more concerned with data transfer.

Well I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible reducing the number of adapters and different cables. If that adapter was 6-12" long, that would be an ideal one-piece.

Having the USB-C female on one end and the USB 3.0 -/- 3.1 male on the other.

Hey, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Thanks for the tip but I'm looking for "USB 3.1 (Gen 2 Type-A) Male to USB 3.1 (Gen 2 Type-C) Female Cable 3.3 ft." at the other end. And unless I'm totally mistaken, I don't see any at that website.

Actually it's not for a phone. It's for a straight-laced extension cable.
