Does anybody know what the inpoutx64.sys driver is or where it comes from? There's appears to be new for me since looking at Autoruns today.

Its an "open source" 64bit driver used to access "old fashioned" ports like the parallel port, serial port and others directly.

It is certainly not essential for running your computer and if you don't know how you got it, then its probably installed by some software you have installed, most commonly, Ive seen it used with software for controlling LCD screens.

I'm guessing something to do with mouse or keyboard, especially gaming mice/keyboards with binding/macros?
Maybe something to do with LED light controls?

All of my peripherals are Corsair running with the CUE 4 software. I've never heard of this driver being associated with Corsair. Any other ideas on how to find out what this driver is associated with?

It's just takes me to the registry entry. Details shows it from Highresolution Enterprises.

There are no VirusTotal flags so I guess that is OK. Still curious...

I have never installed anything named X-Mouse Button Control and I cannot find it on my PC...

Unchecking the entry in Autoruns will prevent it loading, temporarily, re entering the checkmark will re enable it.
Try unchecking it, rebooting and see if anything complains. It is entirely possible it is a support file installed by some software you have installed, but maybe never actually used, an extra feature like a Corsair CPU water block with LCD screen, but you only have the basic water block, for example.
Always best to create a system image before messing with any services/ .DLLs.

It does appear that this driver is vulnerable. Should the driver be completely removed from my machine to avoid any malicious use of the driver?
