Install Office 365 on D drive?

My new laptop has a 256GB SSD for the C drive, and a 1TB HDD for the D drive.

I would much rather install Office 365 on the D drive if possible.

Any suggestions for doing so?

I did try to find the install options for you but the installer keeps crapping out in my VM, so somebody else will need to chip in with it ;)

At least with Office 2021, yes this WILL bork the install, so I assume it's the same with 365. Again, using 2021 as an example, when you first go to install it, there should be a little button/link for advanced setup, if you click that you can change the directory it installs to, it should be similar in 365. Sadly I don't have 365 to test for you though.

365 has no options at all. You click the install link and MS streams it to your C drive.

I came cross something that might work, though. I'm going to try it and post back.

I would not force things in trying to install MS 365 on D:. Even if you can make it to work now, it may break at a Windows Update later on.

If you follow those directions and want Office installed on D... Uninstall Office, follow those directions, then reinstall after for it to move

Yeah, while I love Office 365....2 complaints I have are
  1. Unable to pick during the install which drive to install to
  2. Unable to pick which components of office you want installed. For example, I'll never use MS Access or Publisher and would rather not have to install them. Unfortunately, Office 365 provides no flexibility here.

Update: Changing storage locations as mentioned in post #11 above won't make MS Office go to D drive. Guess it's time, after more than twenty years, to look at OpenOffice.

Not sure who Microsoft is trying to attract, but they're slowly driving long-time customers away.

I find it slightly annoying, but not to the point where I would change products. I'm sure the vast majority of their customers really don't care where it gets installed. Many problem only have a C drive anyway.

Rubbish. Most businesses supply their users with only 1 hard drive, and moving Office from C drive is last thing they would want.

Understand, that's why I find it annoying. I used to have an 80GB ssd back in the day. Fortunately Office isn't a terribly big install.

A new feature of a new OS doesn't quite work yet as it should > simply don't use 'where new content is saved' for now, trying to force it now could lead to bigger problems (n)

The old feature of moving folders should work and could mitigate the situation > right-click Documents folder for example > Properties > Location > Move to D drive (y)
