I am using an updated version of RUFUS with an ISO of windows 11 (directly from the MS site). I am getting an error on installation boot to the RUFUS USB.
I would like to get win 11 installed on this desktop.

The error says that I can only boot to the USB Rufus drive if the dell desktop is in UEFI mode (there is a whole colourful page of instructions). I will paraphrase
To remove this message :

1) If this computer supports UEFI , go to your UEFI and lower or disable the priority
-- not sure if this means switch to UEFI mode or something else?
2) Recreate the drive in RUFUS and use partition scheme MBR and target system BIOS
--I let RUFUS decide which options to choose, so I haven't tried this yet
3) Erase the whole drive in RUFUS and make it boot type non-bootable
--I am not sure what this means because I need to boot from the USB to install win 11.

I did was check the BIOS and found out it was already in UEFI mode, so that got me stumped with my limited knowledge. I am sure I am missing something either small or simple, but looking for some advice from the experts.

Your computer specs state you have Windows 11 home. Is that the current operating system or is it what you are attempting to install? If it isn't the current operating system, what is?

No it is a completely different desktop. The Dell desktop will be a brand new system with a new SSD.

It's possible something is messed up in the setting using RUFUS. If you're sure you've got the Dell set for UEFI it should work. Again unless there's some missed setting. Since you used Media Creation Tool why didn't you let it create the bootable flash drive itself instead of using RUFUS?

Which specific Dell is this for?

The dell does not have the specs for Win 11, so I used it to bypass the CPU spec.

If there is another way that isn't using RUFU - that can bypass the win 11 spec restrictions off the CPU, I would be willing to try that.

When Rufus was used what selections were made?

Code:
Why doesn't Rufus create a Windows installation USB that can be booted in dual BIOS/UEFI mode?
If you are using a Windows ISO that can be dual booted in UEFI or BIOS mode, you may find that the USB
created by Rufus does not preserve the dual UEFI+BIOS boot feature.

Especially, the Windows 8 or later installation ISOs, that support both UEFI and BIOS boot, will be converted
to either one or the other mode, depending on the option you selected under Partition scheme and Target type:
If you select MBR and BIOS or UEFI-CSM, the USB will be bootable in BIOS-mode only (even on UEFI systems),
and if you select GPT then the USB will be bootable in UEFI mode only (and not bootable on a BIOS system at all).

This is done to avoid confusion, as it can be difficult for non-expert users to know whether they actually booted in
UEFI or BIOS mode when a USB Flash Drive can be booted in both modes, and installation is meant to be a one-off
operation, targeting a very specific machine and boot mode. You probably don't want to go through a full Windows
installation, only to realize that it was installed in BIOS mode when all you really wanted was UEFI mode.

By ensuring that only one or the other can be used for Windows installation, there is no room for error with regards to
which mode was used.

Note that this does not apply for Windows To Go and that you can also enable dual UEFI+BIOS boot by using the
Alt-E cheat mode (see below) with Rufus 2.0 or higher. Also, if your UEFI firmware integrates an NTFS driver natively,
then you may also find that you can dual boot a USB created in Rufus, even if only BIOS-CSM was specified.

Win 10 and Win 11 is the same installation process,
Are you booting the Win 11 installation drive as UEFI?
Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

If you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12(?) to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name) if you want to install as UEFI-GPT or select USB (name) if you want to install as Legacy-MBR.
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.
Don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

It may be to your advantage to list the Dell model you're trying to install 11 on.

The comment "go to your UEFI and lower or disable the priority" is unfamiliar to me. Are you misquoting something about the boot order?

I always try to find the hotkey that allows a one-time choice of boot order, rather than changing it in the BIOS settings. That may be F12 on a Dell.

Here is a super easy way to bypass the Windows 11 requirements:

Simply take the text below and save it to a text file. Name it autounattend.xml and save it to the root of your Windows installation media. That is literally all you need to do.

IMPORTANT: This assumes that you are installing Windows Pro edition. If you want to install Home edition, simply change this line:

<Key>VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T</Key>

to

<Key>YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7</Key>

XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!--
Notes about this answer file:

The purpose of this answer file is to simply bypass the Windows 11 system requirement checks. It does NOT perform
an unattended installation of Windows.

It includes a Windows 11 Pro key. If you want to install Windows 11 Home, change the key to
YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

Mackie : Video was great, thank you. I did not use the boot menu to book to UEFI that was the hold up. I was using the "boot to USB" at the top without reading the rest of the options. Testing now, works. The extra information about the taskbar preferences in the video was also great!
